Message to Grads: Walk Forward with Gratitude
Superintendent Aaron Spence shares a special message for this year's LCPS graduates and reminds them to carry gratitude with them as they venture beyond LCPS. Congratulations to the Class of 2025 -- the world is lucky to have you!
Parents Asked to Complete Dietary Request Form to Indicate Needed Accommodations
LCPS School Nutrition Services (SNS) is committed to supporting students with dietary accommodations upon request. SNS requests that parents complete the Dietary Accommodations Request Form to request or to continue accomodations for the 2025-2026 school year. Requests submitted for the 2024-2025 school year will not carry over. A new form must be submitted for continued service.
LCPS is an allergy-aware district. The health and safety of students with food allergies is a top priority for us. SNS does not serve any products labeled with “Contains” or “May Contain” peanuts or tree nuts on the food packaging. Menu items that contain any of the top nine allergens are marked on the online school menus. To view allergens and dietary restrictions, hover over a menu item to see its details or use the drop-down filter at the top of the online menu to sort by specific allergens or dietary restrictions.
Fall 2026 Dulles South Secondary Attendance Zones
Dulles South secondary school attendance zones were adopted by the School Board at their June 10, 2025 meeting. The adopted middle and high school changes will be implemented in fall 2026, with the start of the 2026-2027 school year. Pursuant to Policy 8160 and Board direction on June 10, the surveying of select students who have been rezoned for interest in remaining at their currently zoned school will be conducted in fall 2025. Read more about the Dulles South Secondary School Attendance Zone Change Process.
Moving Up and Moving On
On the last day of school, Waxpool Elementary students cheered on fifth grade students as they prepared to leave their elementary school for the last time.
LCPS Will Provide Free Meals this Summer
LCPS will be providing free meals this summer for students ages 18 and younger at 14 locations throughout Loudoun County. LCPS provides this free service to our families through participation in the U.S. Department of Agriculture Summer Food Service Program. The Summer Food Service Program provides funding for free meals to children during the summer months in order to ensure children retain access to nutritious meals when school is not in session.
Like all federally funded programs, there are certain requirements LCPS must follow, including:
All meals must be consumed at the school or site location.
Food cannot be taken offsite.
Meals cannot be picked up by a parent or guardian to bring home.
Summer meals will be provided Monday through Friday on a first-come, first-serve basis. No meals will be provided on Thursday, June 19, or Friday, July 4. See the LCPS website for more information, plus dates and locations of the summer meals program.
The Loudoun Feeds website provides additional food assistance information. Click the “Find Food” button to see a calendar listing of community partners who operate community kitchens or food pantries.
Assessment Reports Available in ParentVUE Soon
LCPS students recently participated in one or more of the following assessments. Scores and/or score reports will be available for review in ParentVUE on or after June 23. Assessment scores can now be found in the “Test History” tab and score reports can be found in the “Documents” tab, unless otherwise noted. More information about accessing the scores and reports can be found on the LCPS Assessment Services webpage.
ACCESS for ELLs and Alternate ACCESS for ELLs, grades K-12: This federally mandated assessment for English Learner students measures your student’s ability to listen, speak, read, and write in English, helps teachers plan how best to teach your child and assists in determining eligibility for testing accommodations. Scores and reports are expected to be available on or near July 10. For more information, click here.
Formative Assessment System for Teachers (FAST), grades K-12 for certain students: LCPS uses FAST as a diagnostic for oral reading fluency and early literacy skills and as a progress monitoring tool. Progress monitoring data gained is used to determine progress and responsiveness to instruction. For more information about FAST, click here.
i-Ready, grades 9-12: i-Ready is an adaptive assessment tool that measures six areas of reading development. For more information, click here.
Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), grades 1-8 and certain high school students: MAP Growth tests are adaptive (the assessment adapts to the test-taker’s ability level), providing a detailed picture of what your student knows and is ready to learn – whether it is on, above, or below grade level expectations. MAP Growth tests also provide immediate and accurate information about your student’s learning, enabling teachers to personalize instruction to meet students’ needs. For more information about the MAP Growth tests, click here.
Performance Assessments, grades 3, 5, 6&7; Performance assessments measure subject-matter proficiency, requiring students to apply the content and skills they have learned to authentic situations/issues.
Standards of Learning (SOL), Writing grades 11/12 and Non-Writing grades 3-12: SOL tests are state and federally-mandated summative content assessments which provide information on how well students know the instructional standards they were taught. For more information, click here.
Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP), grades 3-11: The Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP), assesses the performance of students with significant cognitive disabilities in grades 3-8 and high school who are working on academic standards that have been reduced in depth, breadth, and complexity. These students are unable to participate in SOL testing and require an alternate assessment format. Students will test online, on paper, or through a combination of both methods in the same content areas assessed at their grade level by an SOL test. Scores and reports are expected to be available on or near July 31.
Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program (VKRP), grade K: VKRP gives you and your child’s teacher a more comprehensive picture of school readiness across four key domains: mathematics, literacy (PALS), self-regulation, and social skills. It provides information teachers can use to effectively individualize instruction and partner with you to help support your child’s school success. For more information about VKRP, click here.
Virginia Language & Literacy Screening System (VALLSS), grades 1-3: VALLSS is the Virginia Department of Education’s sponsored literacy screener. VALLSS measures components of reading that are key for reading comprehension, and is aligned with the newest reading science. Literacy Screening in Virginia: Information for Families
If it is determined that your student is in need of an intervention plan as a result of these screenings and other data, the school will notify you and provide you with a copy of the intervention plan.
Teacher Cadet Ceremony Celebrates Future Educators and Powerful Partnerships
LCPS recently celebrated 248 aspiring educators at the Teacher Cadet Ceremony, held as part of the Division’s “Grow Your Own” initiative to build a strong, sustainable teaching workforce from within the community.
Organized by the Career, Technical and Adult Education office in collaboration with the Department of Human Resources and Talent Development, the event welcomed more than 566 attendees including family members, mentors and school staff. This year’s event highlighted the full range of support LCPS offers students pursuing careers in education—from hands-on classroom experience and dual enrollment through Shenandoah University to mentoring and substitute opportunities during college.
In a special moment during the ceremony, 130 Teacher Cadets received letters of intent from LCPS, pledging them job offers upon college graduation and certification. With 14 high schools in attendance and 15 schools offering the program, the evening was a testament to the power of partnerships, purpose and preparation.
As LCPS continues investing in its future workforce, the Teacher Cadet program exemplifies how early exposure, strategic support and collaboration can inspire the next generation of educators.

Sterling Middle Students Pack 500 Backpacks in Partnership with Mercy Chefs
Sterling Middle School student leaders, in partnership with Mercy Chefs and NFL Tyler Biadasz packed 500 backpacks with shelf-stable, kid-friendly meals to support their peers and families during the summer months, when access to school-provided meals may be limited.
The event, part of Mercy Chefs’ Summer Huddle: Backpack Build initiative, blended hands-on service learning with a message of empathy, teamwork and purpose. Students worked in color-coded teams across two assembly lines, packing nutritious items like mac and cheese, applesauce pouches, granola bars, crackers and more. Each backpack represented the equivalent of 10 meals—and a whole lot of heart.
The project is part of a broader effort to combat food insecurity, which affects more than 44 million Americans, including 13 million children. Here in Loudoun County, families also face challenges in accessing consistent, nutritious food over the summer. By helping to fill that gap, Sterling Middle School students stepped up as servant leaders—demonstrating how even small actions can create lasting impact.
CAMPUS Celebrates Seniors

Of this year’s graduating seniors, 90% have indicated that they are continuing their education at either a 2-year or 4-year college.
