MANHATTAN, Kan. – Twenty-four Kansas 4-H youth have been selected to represent the state during the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, set for the Thanksgiving weekend.
Amy Sollock, a 4-H youth development specialist in southwest Kansas, said the annual event “offers an opportunity to grow as an individual, as well as a chance to learn about 4-H from their peers across the nation.”
More than 800 youth from across the country will participate in National 4-H Congress, which is in its 101st year. Sollock said Kansas’ delegates include state 4-H project award winners, as well as those selected for the annual Key Award or Centennial Award.

Tis' the Season for Giving
Set up in front of our high school office is something new this year, "The Giving Table." Mrs. D. and Olivia Skalla are working together on this project. The table is for everyone! "Give what you can, take what you need" is the motto of this table. Anything from clothes, books, small gifts, school supplies, etc. are available to any student at VH high school. Need a gift, take it. Need it for yourself...all we ask is if you have something to give back, please share. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the table, everyone is welcome to take from the table.
A Letter from Mr. Savage
We hope that all of you had a great Thanksgiving!!
In my last post I mentioned that the end of the 2nd nine week grading period and first semester is rapidly approaching! As I write this week’s article we are exactly three weeks away from the last day of classes before we head home for Christmas break. It is important that our students stay focused and work hard to stay current with their assignments so they can have a solid finish to their first half of the school year. As you are all aware this is a very busy time of the year with school activities, family gatherings, church programs and everything else that goes with the month of December! The office sent our progress slips to the parents/guardians of all of our students in grades 7-12. For those students who need those extra points to improve their grade in a class now is the time to start making the push. Waiting until the last full week will only add a lot of pressure and anxiety to a calendar that is already full! Parents – you can track your students progress through the parent portal of PowerSchool. Let’s work together to create a fantastic end to our semester and the calendar year!
We just got word that our Horse Judging team placed first overall at the District FFA contest hosted by McClouth. Congratulations are in order for Kayla Bigham (2nd overall), Brooke Porter (6th overall), and Kynadee Bishop (11th overall), Anna Brungardt, and Kinze Wessel and our advisor, Ms. Carrie Husband! This top finish guarantees that the team has now qualified for the State Horse Competition in the spring! Great job ladies!
High school activities get cranked back up this week with a Friday night home contest against Riley County. We also have a junior high home game this Thursday night against Hanover. Home games during December are few and far between with a high school game on December 15th (Doniphan West) and a junior high game with Linn on the 18th. Come on out and support our Mustangs!
Our 7-12 Christmas Concert will be hosted on December 13th at 7:00 pm. Our young musicians have been working hard to prepare for the program and would like to perform in front of a large crowd! Please plan on attending and kickstarting your holiday season with some Christmas favorites.
Our high school Scholars’ Bowl team earned the bronze medal at the Onaga meet right before Thanksgiving and finished just outside the final four in a recent tournament at Frankfort. These students come in early of morning practice to hone their skills for these academic meets. Their advisor is Mrs. Shannon Conti.
Have a great week!
