Some thoughts for the starting school year

A Message from the Principal
Dear St. Matthias Families,
Thank you for your continued prayers, kindness, and support. Your compassion continues to be a source of strength, and I remain grateful to be part of such a faith-filled community.
As we enter the beautiful month of May, the Catholic Church invites us into a special time of devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God and spiritual mother of all believers. May has long been dedicated to honoring Mary through prayer, reflection, and acts of love. It is a time when we look to her as a model of faith, humility, and trust in God.
Throughout the Church’s history, May has been marked by traditions such as offering flowers, praying the Rosary, and lifting our hearts in gratitude and praise. These practices remind us of Mary’s role in salvation history and encourage us to grow closer to her Son through her example. As Pope Paul VI affirmed, May is truly “her month”—a season of hope, renewal, and joy.
In this spirit, we look forward to celebrating our May Crowning on May 8, and we invite all students to bring flowers as an offering to Mary. This cherished tradition allows our students to actively participate in honoring our Blessed Mother in a meaningful and prayerful way.
Additionally, our virtue for the month is charity, which calls us to love others as Christ loves us—through kindness, generosity, and compassion. As we honor Mary this month, we are reminded of her perfect example of charity and are encouraged to live this virtue in our daily lives.
We are now in the final stretch of the school year, and I continue to be proud of the growth and dedication I see in our students each day. Thank you for your ongoing partnership in supporting their academic and spiritual development.
With gratitude,
Dr. Coretta Streat
Principal
