Hats on for Mental Health

Living with mental health challenges often forces people to hide behind a “mask” to protect themselves from judgment and discrimination. But the heavier the stigma, the heavier the mask becomes and the more isolated we feel. Mental Health week this year is May 5-11, and we encourage everyone to look beyond the surface and see the whole person. By embracing honesty and vulnerability, we open the door to deeper connections and the mental health benefits that come with it.

Wednesday, May 7th is 'Hats on for Mental Health'. Wear a hat to help raise awareness for mental health.

Anything BUT A Backpack Day!

Get ready for a fun and creative challenge! On Friday, May 23rd, we are celebrating Anything BUT A Backpack Day!

Instead of using your usual backpack, bring your school supplies in something completely different. Get creative — think baskets, buckets, pillowcases, or even small suitcases!

Important Reminders:

  • No large items are permitted on the school bus.

  • If you are unsure whether your item is allowed, please check with your bus driver in advance to make sure it meets sizing criteria.

  • Make sure whatever you bring is safe and easy to carry!

We can’t wait to see the creative ideas you come up with! Let’s have some fun while showing off our imagination and school spirit.

Unified Sports in Action!

Shoutout to Daxton, Aurora, Austin, Tyson and their partners for representing our school at the 2nd Annual ND Unified Cougar Classic, hosted by École Secondaire Notre Dame High School in Red Deer, Alberta, on April 3, 2025. The tournament featured a unified cornhole competition (bean bag toss) and three-on-three basketball, bringing together students together for a day of inclusive sports, teamwork and fun!

Unified sports serves as a transformative platform for breaking down barriers, fostering greater acceptance, and empowering individuals through the power of sport. Through this shared experience, participants develop a sense of belonging, learn to interact meaningfully with others, and form lasting, mutually rewarding relationships. Unified Sports is a model that promotes social inclusion by joining individuals with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team.

A huge thank you to Mrs. Lush, Mrs. Nash and Mrs. Owens for making this opportunity possible for our students! Your support and dedication to inclusion are truly appreciated.

Parent and/or Guardian Survey

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. We value your feedback and the information you provide will help inform our plans at the district and school levels.

We acknowledge that if you are a parent of a child in grades 4, 7, or 10, you will have received a very similar survey from Alberta Education. We strongly encourage you to complete both surveys as the information you provide informs our planning and results provincially as well as locally.

You will be asked to indicate which grade your child is in at the outset of this survey. Please select one of your children to begin with. At the end of the survey, you will have the opportunity to go through another survey for your other children if you choose. If all your survey answers would apply to all of your children’s experiences in our schools, it is only necessary to respond once.

The survey should take you less than 15 minutes to complete. We appreciate your time and your very valuable feedback. The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, May 9.

Landan Stones by Remi (Grade 5)

Landan Stones is the principal of the one and only Bentley School. His favorite part of his job is visiting classrooms because he gets to see all the amazing kids, but his least favorite part of his job is when he has to make schedules because it takes forever. At home he has a wife and two boys. He is currently living close to Ponoka. The schools he has taught at are Clive and Iron Ridge Junior. He likes basketball, baseball, and making cowboy hats. His proud moments and accomplishments are winning basketball championships as a coach. He is always making the school a better place. He is always helping teachers when needed. He is friendly, calm, hardworking, funny, and caring. His happiest memory is when his kids were born. When he is not at school and during summer break he likes gardening and playing baseball. In the winter he likes to snowshoe and hunt. What makes him happy is when he works hard towards a goal then meets it. If you're wondering, his favorite movie is Jungle Book. If Mr. Stones could go anywhere in the world he would go to Texas because it is far and warm. The person that inspires him the most is his dad because his dad was a teacher. Without Mr. Stones in our school, it would not be Bentley School!
