Dear Families, Students, Teachers, and Staff,
In May, we proudly celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week—a special time dedicated to honoring the extraordinary dedication, passion, and impact of our educators. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible teachers across our school district who go above and beyond every day to inspire, nurture, and empower our students. Your unwavering commitment to excellence and your positive influence in the classroom and beyond do not go unnoticed. Thank you for all that you do to shape the future, one student at a time.
We would also like to extend our deepest thanks to fellow board member and current Board President, Neil Desnoyers, for his many years of dedicated service to the Upper Darby School District Board of Directors.Neil was elected and joined the Board in December 2017. Throughout his tenure, Neil has consistently demonstrated strong, thoughtful partnership, leadership, and a deep commitment to the success of our schools and students. In addition to his steady guidance as a colleague and leader in our community, Neil has brought exceptional skill and insight to the complex work of policy review and development. His keen understanding of educational policy and his ability to translate that knowledge into clear, effective governance have been invaluable assets to the Board. Neil’s meticulous attention to detail and collaborative approach have helped ensure that the district’s policies reflect best practices and support a positive, equitable learning environment for all. We are grateful for Neil’s unwavering dedication, integrity, and the countless hours he has invested in shaping a stronger future for the Upper Darby School District. Neil will certainly be missed. We extend our warmest wishes to Neil and his family as they embark on this next chapter, and we thank him sincerely for the lasting contributions he has made to our school community.
With appreciation,
The School Board of Directors
What are Monthly School Board of Directors' Updates?
As part of the Board of School Directors' communication plan, the School Board of Directors sends monthly updates to the school community. Monthly updates include highlights of school board of directors' community engagement and advocacy efforts, important dates, upcoming school district events, updates on any new policies or changes in policies, financial updates, and information on district resources. These updates aim to keep everyone informed and engaged with the school community. The information included in these briefs is not intended to be a complete recounting of Board meetings and do not replace official Board meeting minutes. Official meeting minutes, agendas, reports, and presentations are available at BoardDocs. Also, the Board meetings are live streamed to the District's Official UDSD Board & Board Committee Meetings YouTube Channel. We welcome you to follow the issues the School Board is considering and to attend meetings to stay informed. Thank you for taking the time each month to read the School Board of Directors' Updates!

Advocacy Corner
What is the Advocacy Corner?
The Upper Darby School District Board of School Directors believes that all students, regardless of background, economic should have a quality public education and an equal opportunity for success. The Advocacy Corner provides information and resources for parents/guardians with the goal of ensuring that every child has access to the resources and support they deserve through equitable public school funding. Upper Darby School District has historically faced state underfunding while seeing the cost of educating students in Pennsylvania's public schools increasing steadily and an increase in unfunded mandates.
Tell Congress: Don’t Defund Our Kids!
Tell your senator and representative to support public schools and students in the communities they represent and to oppose the creation of a new federal voucher program. In addition, urge them to use the power of Congress to reinstate employees at US Department of Education to ensure that Pennsylvania's students and communities will continue to have access to the funding and programs they depend on.

In Your Community
What does "In Your Community" highlight?
"In Your Community" features board members' investment in stewardship and service and their efforts to engage with the community, participate in community events, listen to citizens, promote student achievement, and help community members understand how the school board works to advocate for students and families. Partnering with the community in volunteerism and in service of our community is important to us.
Directors Desiree' Murphy Morrissey, Damien Warsavage, and Neil Desnoyers expressed their appreciation for the Highland Park Elementary School teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week with a wonderful lunch and beautiful flowers for each teacher.
Director Kimberly Glenn attended Bywood Elementary School's PBIS Carnival where a student gave her the coolest face painting to match her Royals gear!
They got him good! Director Damien Warsavage bravely faced the ultimate splash zone at the Bywood PBIS Carnival—where he was lovingly launched into the dunk tank like a cannonball of school spirit. Let’s just say… gravity and good aim were in full effect!
