Bloomsights

Bloomsights has a different look this year and it is easier to find some informtion. This week, please look at the results from your classes and check in with your students in red. Mary and I will be checking in with them as well. Often times, it is a misunderstanding of a question, or just how they felt that day, but we want to make sure each child feels successful and supported at school. It is a great starting place for some meaningful conversations. If you open Bloomsights in "anonymous" mode, you can show the results to your class and talk about the data. Often times those conversations are very informative.

Character Strong

This week is RESPECT week 3. One of the goals we have this year is to connect the learning in Character Strong to the Work Habits so on week 3 of every trait, I will make some of those connections during our Monday Assembly, but be thinking about how you can make those connections in class. During the Behavior PLC's you will be setting a goal around the Work Habits so this is one more way to teach those and help kids see where they show up in every day learning.

Please fill out this

Character Strong Resources Google Form so we know how to move forward with supporting Character Strong Implementation in our building.

I am happy to support your SEL time in your class in any way I can. Please reach out if you need anything!

PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) School Wide Expectations

This week we will focus on the lunchroom. Connecting the expectations in the lunchroom and RESPECT will be a great way to connect learning across content areas. We show respect by having a level 1 voice. We show respect by keeping our food on our trays or lunchboxes and cleaning up when we are finished. We show respect by using our time wisely to eat. We show respect by making sure all of our trash goes IN the trashcan. We show respect by following the directions of the lunchroom teachers. Our systems in the lunchroom have really helped this year, but we always have work to do.

The Teach To Expectations are linked below. It is an easy way to pull them up and really teach an expectation well.

"You're Fur Real" tickets are in the collaboration room for you to use to encourage other staff members throughout the week.

Higher Order Thinking through the Depth and Complexity Model

The Depth and Complexity model is a framework designed to help students think more critically and deeply about content by using a set of thinking tools—icons and prompts—that encourage exploration of patterns, multiple perspectives, ethical issues, and more. The Depth and Complexity Framework was originally developed in the mid 1990’s by researchers at USC. Its primary purpose was to push students towards thinking that is similar to professionals or experts in the field. The creators sought to answer the question: How can educators prompt students to go beyond a basic understanding of content and elicit critical thinking at an expert level, regardless of topic or content? Pairing thinking skills with iconic prompts demands deeper analysis, evaluation and a more complex understanding of a topic.

If you are looking for a way to increase rigor and higher-order thinking in your school, please contact Carol Swalley to talk about training opportunities for your teachers. Materials for implementation will be provided to everyone who participates in a training.

September - National Hispanic Heritage Month

Each year, Americans celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of those whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America from September 15 to October 15. In the 2024-2025 school year, 23.8% of TSD students self-identified as members of this large community. Each middle school and high school has a Latinos Unified in Community (LUC) student group to engage, encourage, and support Hispanic and Latino youth and is open to all interested students and staff.
