Principal's Update

Dear St. Gabe's students and families,

Happy Halloween and welcome November! It's hard to believe that we're already 2 months into the school year!

Of course, that also means that we're 8 weeks into our coursework. Staying on task with your work is really important. We are flexible at St. Gabes but it's important to keep up with the course outline as posted in Moodle or on Google Classroom. Please reach out to your teachers if you need help with getting caught up.

I also want to take this opportunity to welcome Mr. Frank Breen to St. Gabes. Our numbers are up this year which has allowed us to hire a new teacher. Mr. Breen will be teaching grade 9 math, science, grade 8 and 9 health and PE, CALM and Religious Studies 25. We are very happy to have Mr. Breen join us! Please contact him if you have any questions or if there are technical glitches in the transfer of classes.

We have a lot of important events in November so please read through the newsletter and let me know if you have any questions.

Many Blessings!

Renee Trottier

Fun in Science at St. Gabes!

Mrs. Bedi has been instructing some experiments and demonstrations in her science classes lately! Check out these pictures of titration and dissection.

Titration

The process of determining the quantity of substance A by adding measured increments of substance B, the titrant, with which it reacts until exact chemical equivalence is achieved. Can you think of where we use titration in the world of work?

Dissection

Students were able to explain the organs of the body and compare them to human organs and systems in the body in Biology 30.

Adulting is(n't) that Hard!

Please see attached information for an upcoming program being run by FCSS in partnership with the St. Albert Public Library. Adulting Is(n’t that) Hard is a life skills program designed for youth and young adults 15-24 years old in our community. The first set of sessions will be running Oct 18 – Nov 29 (bi-weekly) and will focus on employment. This program would be a great fit for any high school students looking or thinking about a first job or students who have had a job but struggled to keep it. Sessions 3 and 4 will address topics such as how to ask for a raise or negotiate pay, what types of taxes are taken off a paycheque etc.
