Superintendent's Message

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you've had a wonderful summer vacation, taking the time to rest and rejuvenate for the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year. As we approach the start of the new school year, I'd like to remind you of JUHSD's continued commitment to providing a safe, equitable, and supportive environment for all students and staff. We embrace inclusion, value diversity, and address systemic inequities to provide access, opportunity and belonging for all.

Welcome Back

Our All Staff Welcome Back will take place on Monday, August 5th, starting at 8:30 am in the Westmoor High School Theater. We will begin the day with a light breakfast served in the Westmoor Theater Building hallway from 8:00-8:30 am.

The morning will focus on the importance of belonging. Belonging is about feeling valued and supported in a space where your unique identity is recognized. When students experience true belonging, they are more engaged, more motivated, and more likely to thrive. I want every student in JUHSD to know that they belong!

I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Allyson Tintiangco-Cubales as our Keynote Speaker this year. Dr. Tintiangco-Cubales is the Founder and Director of Community Responsive Education (CRE). CRE and Dr. Tintiangco Cubales have supported teachers and administrators here in JUHSD in building a strong Ethnic Studies program, and we are grateful for the partnership. We are inspired by her work and excited that she is with us to help usher in the school year.

A highlight of our day will be student voice as our own students will share about their personal experiences and reflections on belonging in JUHSD. Then, Dan Arzaga, who is beginning his new role as our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Ethnic Studies TOSA and Melissa Ambrose, our Wellness Coordinator, will focus on self care and our equity journey.

Following lunch, we will move to breakout sessions designed to enhance your best practices as employees of JUHSD. These sessions aim to provide valuable knowledge and tools to support your professional growth. To ensure that you can attend the breakout sessions that interest you the most, please sign up for your afternoon sessions by clicking here.

In the meantime, please make the most of your remaining summer days, and I eagerly look forward to seeing each one of you on August 5th!

2024-2025 All District Administrator Retreat

Day 1 of the JUHSD All District Administrative Retreat was incredibly productive and inspiring! We focused on Dare to Lead principles, delved into student experience data with the National Equity Project, strategized around LCAP, and enjoyed bonding time together.

Day 2 of our district administrative retreat kicked off with Educational Policies and County Counsel Legal updates, followed by an insightful session on Human Resources policies and AFT contracts, and incorporating Universal Design for Learning (UDL) across the district.

Together, we're committed to fostering an environment where both educators and students can thrive. Here's to making lasting changes and continuing our journey of excellence!
