Good morning PVSD families,

A highlight of my week was visiting classrooms and seeing students actively learning, collaborating, and thriving in the caring environments our teachers create each day. Thank you to the teachers and staff at La Mariposa, LPSSA, and the Early Education Center at PVSEA for sharing with me a few moments of joy!

It is my pleasure to congratulate the Monte Vista community for your recognition from the California Department of Education as a 2026 California Distinguished School! We could not be more proud of the hard work and steadfast dedication of the Monte Vista staff, who put student learning first each and every day. They have remained relentlessly focused on student achievement and committed to helping every student succeed. Together, they have lifted each student up and continued to believe deeply in Monte Vista students and families. This recognition also reflects the important partnership between Monte Vista staff and families, whose shared commitment to students helps make the Monte Vista community so special.

Please see the new school highlights below and an update on the 7-11 Surplus Property Advisory Committee.

There will be no school Monday, March 16th, as it is a staff development day. We look forward to welcoming students back Tuesday, March 17th.

Thank you to all, and have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Dr. Danielle Cortés

New! School Highlights New! School Highlights

CHSA Principal Hicks-Highlights this week at CHSA began on Saturday as we proudly cheered on our speller in the county competition. Throughout the week we continued to celebrate literacy with Mrs. Hicks reading to our Read Across America bingo winners. As we wind down the second trimester, students enjoyed engaging activities that kept learning fun and memorable, like making light sabers.

Dos Caminos Principal Waggoner-A highlight at Dos Caminos this week was putting the final preparations and study sessions together for the Camarillo Academic Olympics SuperQuiz. Our team worked incredibly hard while modeling integrity, teamwork, and a positive spirit and they had a lot of fun along the way! We are also excited to defend the Val Rains Sportsmanship Award we proudly earned at the last SuperQuiz, recognizing the school that best demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship and encouragement toward all competing teams. We are so proud of the DCS Da Vinci Delphinidae!

La Mariposa Principal Stepan-Our VIP Bubble Bash was an amazing night filled with music, dancing, and lots of smiles! Thank you to all of our incredible volunteers who helped make the event such a fun and safe experience for our students. Your time, energy, and support truly make events like this possible. A special shoutout to our parent DJ, Mr. Euan - Kidd Spin, for bringing the music and keeping the dance floor full all night long! We are so grateful for our wonderful school community and everyone who helped make this event a success!

Las Colinas Principal Pomerantz-Las Colinas Middle School had a fantastic Career Day this week. A big thank you to our counselors and PTSA for organizing such a meaningful event for our students. Thank you to our guest teachers for volunteering your time for our students; we really appreciate it. Our guest speakers shared their career journeys and gave students a chance to learn about a variety of future opportunities. It was exciting to see students engaged, asking questions, and thinking about their goals beyond middle school. Career Day is an important way to help students connect what they learn in school to the many possibilities ahead.

Las Posas Principal Holtke-There is MUCH to celebrate at LPS, yet the highlight of the week was the Mobile Dairy Classroom Assembly. The Mobile Dairy Classroom brought agricultural education to LPS and taught our students how milk and dairy foods are produced and how they contribute to a healthy lifestyle. All students learned new vocabulary, the anatomy of a cow, how milk goes from the cow to the table, and the importance of healthy eating and physical activity… and let’s face it, just how often does a kiddo from Camarillo get the chance to see a cow up close and personal. A tremendous learning opportunity for all LPS students!

LPSSA Principal Kimberly LePage-What a whirlwind of a week at LPSSA! From a new spirit day each day during Read Across America to celebrating Women in History, our campus was filled with learning, creativity, and school pride. Students had the unique opportunity to meet “guests from the past” who brought influential women in American history to life and shared their lasting impact on our culture. A heartfelt thank you to our incredible volunteers who dressed the part and to those who took time out of their day to come read with our students. We truly appreciate your support of literacy and learning at LPSSA.

Monte Vista Principals Green and Magaña- This week, we were deeply honored to be recognized as a California Distinguished School for Closing the Achievement Gap. This recognition reflects the extraordinary dedication, expertise, and heart that our staff bring to their work with students each and every day. Their unwavering commitment to excellence, collaboration, and high expectations ensure that all learners are supported, challenged, and empowered to succeed. Together, they cultivate a school community where every student has the opportunity to thrive and reach their fullest potential. We are profoundly grateful for the passion and professionalism of our educators and staff, whose collective efforts continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and families.

PVSEA Principal Jimenez- This week at PVSEA, we had our Mini Society Shop where students in middle school create a financial plan and developed products to “sell” to others who had Cougar Bucks to spend. It was educational, informational, and FUN! We also enjoyed some outdoor PE earlier in the week (before the weather flipped on us), and we learned about underwater animals at the EEC. Students were excited to receive their Outstanding Cougar Awards on Monday. We had a great PTA meeting and we look forward to combining ELAC and PTA in April. We are getting ready for the Fun Run next week and preparing ahead for our Family Dance in April. Be sure to get your volunteer forms submitted before next week for the Fun Run if you can help out.

Rancho Rosal Principal Dexter -This week things were heating up at The Ranch! We completed our first Read-a-Thon with our Stallions read over 150,000 minutes! Way to go Stallions! A big THANK YOU to Jessica Mueller and our PTA for bringing this fun competition to our Ranch. Our teachers were excited to meet with families this week and discuss our Stallions growth and progress and we close out our 2nd trimester (the year is flying!) this Friday. Walking through our classrooms, students were abuzz discussing the pros and cons of catching a leprechaun and supporting their ideas with reasons in persuasive writing. Finally, we also hosted a Family Math Game Night. THANK YOU Mindy Froelich for supporting our budding mathematicians and to our PTA for bringing ice cream to cool off on such a warm week.

SRTMS Principal Stuart-It’s been a soaring few weeks here on campus! Our 4th‑grade Eagles spread their wings academically with their impressive “‑ology” projects, proudly displaying all the research and creativity they’ve been working so hard on. In the middle school, our Sports Science students took flight with their final egg‑drop experiments. Some eggs landed gracefully, others… well, let’s just say gravity won, but the excitement was sky‑high. We were also thrilled to welcome our local Sheriff’s Office, who swooped in to read to our youngest learners in celebration of Read Across America Week. And of course, our boys basketball team continues to fly above the competition, holding strong in first place in the league. Eagle pride is everywhere right now, and it shows.

Tierra Linda Principal Bakoo-We have been so busy at Tierra Linda the past few weeks! Hawks enjoyed Read Across America, with a school wide read in, dress up days, fun reading themed activities in Makerspace and a community book swap. We loved our celebrity readers and are so appreciative that Camarillo PD and Dr. Cortes joined us for this! Our 4th and 5th graders all had field trips. 4th grade made tortillas and adobe bricks at Olivas Adobe, and 5th graders were in the Situation Room at the Reagan Library. 2nd – 5th Graders continue to enjoy their Friday Enrichment activities, with another session starting up for 2/3 last week and 4/5 this week. Such a fun and engaging way to end the week!

New! Surplus Advisory Committee Update New! Surplus Advisory Committee Update

7–11 Surplus Advisory Committee Update

The District’s 7–11 Surplus Advisory Committee has been meeting to review and analyze information related to the property located at 2222 Ventura Boulevard in Camarillo. The committee’s role is to study the property and prepare a report that will help inform the Board of Trustees as they consider possible future uses of the site.

As part of this process, Education Code section 17390(c) requires the committee to hold a public hearing to gather community input on acceptable uses of the property, including the possible sale or lease of surplus real property.

Community members are invited to attend and share their input regarding the 2222 Ventura Boulevard property. Written comments may also be submitted in place of speaking at the meeting. The meeting agenda will include information about hearing procedures and time limits for speakers.

PVSD will be offering Saturday Academy sessions this school year on 4/18/26. These four-hour school days are open to all TK–8th grade students and can be used to make up unverified, unexcused, or excused absences. By attending, students clear an absence from their record and the district is able to recover important funding that is lost whenever a student misses school.

Participation is voluntary for families. For students in grades 6–8, Saturday Academy may also be assigned as a consequence for inappropriate behavior, in which case it is not optional. Please remember that students cannot attend Saturday Academy in advance of an absence, but if you have received a SARB or illness letter, attending can help replace one of those absence days.

Your principal will share more details as the dates approach.

Parking for Camarillo Pony Baseball Parking for Camarillo Pony Baseball

PVSD is happy to offer free parking at PVSEA and the District Office during Camarillo Pony Baseball to help alleviate congestion on Eston Street.

Camarillo Teamwork Matters!

Please help keep our community safe and welcoming by following these simple guidelines:

🚗 Obey All Traffic Rules – Drive slowly, follow parking signs, and respect crosswalks. Violations will result in citations.
🏡 Be Considerate of Our Neighbors – Keep noise levels down, avoid double parking and blocking driveways. Getting your car towed is a hassle!
🗑 Keep It Clean – Use trash bins and leave no trace behind.

Thank you for being a great part of our neighborhood! Let's play ball and show respect on and off the field!
