What Your Child is Learning This Week
English Language Arts
Reading:
Students will choose from a variety of strategies to determine the meaning of unknown words and phrases by listening to read alouds, participating in class discussions, and exploring context clues.
OG:
Students will review key reading and spelling skills they learned in second grade. This helps strengthen their foundation and ensures they’re ready to build on those skills in third grade.
Writing:
Students will gather ideas for future writing in their Writer’s Notebook. They’ll organize their thoughts using tools like a Heart Map, Places that Matter, People that Matter, and Best/Worst Memories to help inspire personal and meaningful writing.
Math
Students will review second grade skills, such as odd and even numbers, place value, addition, subtraction, and how to use a ruler.
Science
Students will use fossils to determine the habitat of an area many years ago.
Social Studies
To begin later in September!
SEL Lesson on Wednesday
Respect
Students will view a video demonstrating the need for upstanding behavior. Then, they will practice 3 ways to respond when they see or experience bullying—first in a group, then on their own.
Student Spotlights
Mrs. Bauza's Homeroom
Hi, my name is Aurelia! After school, I like to play on my iPad. Something I really love is my puppy! When I grow up, I want to be a singer. In Reading and Writing, we are learning about stamina. How we can read and write for a long time.
