News from the Principal π€©
Dear Neabsco Families,
As we continue to build a positive and caring school community, Iβd like to share a reminder about the importance of respect, kindness, and personal space. Our goal is for every child to feel safe, valued, and supported at school β and that begins with the choices we make each day, even when no one is watching.
Last week, one of our special education teachers, Mr. Robinson, shared a powerful message with a student that I think is meaningful for all of us. He reminded the student, βItβs not just about doing the right thing when teachers are watching β itβs about doing and saying the right thing when no one is looking.β
This simple reminder gets to the heart of character and integrity. When students learn to make good choices independently, they grow into kind, respectful, and responsible leaders β both inside and outside the classroom.
Families, Your Role Matters
Families, you play an important role in helping children understand and practice positive behaviors at school β not just in the classroom, but everywhere they go. Please take time to talk with your child about showing respect, kindness, and responsibility in the lunchroom, at recess, in the hallways, and in the bathrooms. Remind them that expectations for good choices extend beyond academics β they also include completing homework, setting goals, and treating others with care. Together, we can help our students build strong habits that reflect integrity and pride in being Neabsco Stars!
Please take a few minutes this week to talk with your child about:
-
Respect for Others: Using kind words, listening to others, and honoring differences.
-
Personal Space: Keeping hands and objects to oneself, asking before touching othersβ belongings, and respecting boundaries.
-
Responsibility: Making good choices, telling the truth, and taking ownership of actions.
-
Integrity: Doing the right thing because itβs right β not because someone is watching.
Important Note
Please make sure to sign up for a conference with your childβs teacher on Monday, November 3rd. These conferences are a valuable opportunity to discuss your childβs progress, celebrate their growth, and set goals for continued success. Your partnership makes all the difference in helping every student grow and find success as a student! If you need assistance or would like to speak with our Parent Liaison, please contact Mrs. Steudle for family support at steudlsd@pwcs.edu or 703-670-2147.
It was great to see everyone at Trunk or Treat last night!

All In Tutoring π
All in Virginia works in conjunction with the Virginia Literacy Act. This program works to accelerate student learning and focuses on skills students need to learn. This program also targets students who are chronically absent and provides the learning experience they need to continue to thrive. Every student receives core literacy instruction aligned to state standards and uses high quality instructional materials. These materials promote students reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Students analyze the text and justify reasons why their answer makes sense.
In math, students receive lessons that focus on building connections, spiraling skills, and promoting their problem-solving skills. Students discuss how a problem was solved as they reflect upon their mathematical thinking.
It is important your student attends three days a week to specifically target their learning needs. Please let your student's teacher know if your student will be absent, if their transportation method changes, or is no longer attending the program.
4th and 5th Grade Clubs
Please remind your student, clubs occur every week unless there is a schoolwide event. Registration is still open for Volleyball and K-Club. The K-Club is a service-based club associated with the Kiwanis group and helps to improve our community.

Neabsco Dinners
Neabsco Families! On tutoring days (Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays) our students are receiving dinner provided free at Neabsco Elementary. Your student does not need to be registered for the tutoring program to be eligible to receive dinner. If you are interested in having your student receive a free dinner on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays please see the following information below:
- Dinners for students under the age of 18 will be served at 4:15pm, Mondays, Tuesday, and Wednesdays
- Students must eat dinner in the Neabsco Cafe, they may not leave the building with food
- Your student must have transportation home after their dinner. All students are eligible to receive dinner, but if staying after school to receive dinner impacts their ability to get on the school bus, arrangements to get home must be made. The bus will not wait for students.
Feel free to contact the School Parent Liaison if you have questions regarding the free dinners. Susana Steudle, steudlsd@pwcs.edu, 571.589.4784

Math Minute
π‘ Living in a Lego House π
Sure, the Three Little Pigs built their houses out of straw, sticks, bricksβ¦ but what about Lego? A while ago 1,200 people built a life-size house out of normal-sized Lego. It took them over a month! The 20-foot-tall striped house used more than 3 million bricks, and even had a bumpy bed that probably wasnβt so comfy.
Wee ones: If the house used 5 Lego colors but you wanted to add green, how many colors would the house use then?
Little kids: If the stripes were white, red, blue, yellow, black, and then started over to repeat, what color would the 12th stripe be? Bonus: If you stand as tall as the 20th stripe, how many full sets of 5 colors would that be?
Big kids: Can you write the number 3 million in digits? How many zeros do you need? Bonus: The volunteers started building on August 1 of that year, and finished on September 17. How many days after starting did they finish?
Answers:
Wee ones: 6 colors.
Little kids: Red: since the colors repeat in 5s, it would be the same color as the 2nd stripe. Bonus: 4 full sets.
Big kids: 3,000,000, which has 6 zeros. Bonus: 47 days. August has 31 days, so August 31 is 30 days after the start. Then you add another 17 days.
