Physical Education
Kindergarten through fourth grade students have improved tremendously in locomotor skills! In P.E., we will continue to work on locomotor skills, and introduce game/ sports skills that will keep students motivated to improve their health and wellness. Skills that we will cover in May: catching and throwing, Kicking skills, kickball, soccer, and teamwork.
Music
We made it to May!
I have really enjoyed sharing music with all of our Rees Stars. They are so talented and creative. Our last month of school will be spent reviewing songs, games, and dances. Fun, fun, fun!
Kindergarten and 1st Grade will be learning circle games, dramatic play, and using more props and manipulatives. Our songs will be about animals, Spring, and Summer!
2nd Graders are going to be learning partner games and dances. They will be doing some review games in Quaver Music and with Kahoot!
3rd Graders are continuing to read note names on the music staff. They will also start a unit on stick dances and tinikling!
4th Graders will continue recorders and finish up our Recorder Karate unit. They are displaying their belts on their personal instruments. We have many who have already completed the challenge!
This month I will be choosing our Alief Music Memory Olympics team. The team will learn to aurally identify ten pieces from throughout the year, and take a listening test. Fifteen fourth graders will be invited to participate in the Alief Music Memory event on May 21st at 1:30 p.m.
3rd and 4th Grade Choir News: We had an amazing performance at the Alief Teacher of the Year Ceremony! We will continue to meet after school on Thursdays to prepare for our final production of Seussical the Musical, Jr. on May 15th at 6:00 p.m. in the Rees Cafeteria.
Thank you for allowing your children the opportunity to make beautiful music with me!

Dear Parents,
For the month of May, all Kindergarten through 4th-grade students will be finishing out the year by wrapping up our hip hop unit! Throughout this time, we’ve explored several hip hop moves, including the coffee grinder and the kick out. Students are continuing to learn new choreography while also taking time to review everything we’ve covered since the beginning of the school year. We are revisiting ballet and jazz fundamentals to keep those skills fresh and to strengthen both memory and muscle memory across all the styles we’ve studied. It’s been an exciting year of growth, and we’re looking forward to finishing strong!
Health and Technology
For May we will continue to do Code.Org in Health Tech Lab. We use it to solve big problems by breaking them into smaller parts, looking for patterns, and making a smart plan.
Step 1: Break It Down
First, we take a big problem and split it into smaller pieces. This is called decomposition. It’s like taking a big puzzle and working on one piece at a time.
Step 2: Find Patterns
Next, we look for things that happen again and again. These are patterns. They help us understand how to solve the problem faster.
Step 3: Focus on What Matters
Then, we use abstraction. This means we look at the important parts and ignore the stuff that doesn’t matter. It’s like finding the clues we really need.
Step 4: Make a Plan
Last, we make a plan to solve the problem step by step. This plan is called an algorithm. It’s like writing a recipe that tells us exactly what to do.
How Do We Use This?
Computational thinking helps us in real life and with computers! With a teacher’s help, we can write code—a list of steps—to solve problems on the computer. It’s just like solving a puzzle!
With these detective skills, we can solve all kinds of problems—at school, on the computer, and in everyday life!
Rees students will have fun using Code.Org in Rees Tech Lab!
