Credit Recovery: What Students and Families Need to Know Credit Recovery: What Students and Families Need to Know

If a student should fail a course in high school, we have procedures in place to support them in regaining credits toward graduation. We want to be sure everyone is aware of the procedures, enhancements, and limitations when making course selections and working in courses during the school year.

  • The primary focus of credit recovery is to provide a second opportunity to earn credits in the core subject matters of English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Minimal courses are available in other subject areas if the student still requires them during their senior year.

    • English CR courses are offered for all 4 years of English credits

    • Mathematics CR courses include Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Financial Mathematics

    • Science CR courses include Earth & Space, Biology, Environmental, Physics, and Astronomy

    • Social Studies CR courses include Civics, World History, World Geography, US History, Economics, Psychology, and Sociology

    • CR Electives for seniors may include Health, Personal Finance, Art Appreciation, and Career Explorations

  • Students who fail a class with a grade above 30% are eligible for online credit recovery courses offered on the Edmentum platform and completed with the assistance of a credit recovery instructor. The final course grade earned in the credit recovery course will be added to their transcript.

  • Students who fail a class with a grade below 30% will need to retake the course. The final course grade for this repeated attempt will be added to their transcript.

  • In some cases, a student may be able to work on a Unit Recovery Grade Change from an F of 50% - 59% to a D in a core subject area. This will depend on the course the grade was received in, analysis of why the student failed the course, and meeting specific requirements in order to earn the grade change.

New Club! Explorations in Innovation

Welcome to Explorations in Innovation, our new schoolwide club dedicated to exploring the cutting edge of STEM!

What We Do: We focus on student-designed explorations, diving into activities and local companies in the world of science, technology, engineering, and math. Our monthly "in-school" gatherings are active planning sessions where we brainstorm and prepare for experiences, speakers, and field trips that happen throughout the rest of the school year.

Meeting Schedule: Students will meet during lunch on Wednesdays once a month in Mrs. Hansen's classroom (Rm. 141 down past the gym). To make sure everyone gets the right access, we are splitting into two groups based on grade level:

  • Upperclassmen (11th/12th graders) meet on the 1st Wednesday of each month - First meeting Wedns, 10/21, Rm. 141.
  • Underclassmen (9th/10th graders) meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. - First meeting Wedns, 11/4, Rm. 141.

How It Works: Because the needs of the two groups are different, the way you design your explorations will play out a bit differently. However, the actual experiences and field trips will be available to all club members, no matter your grade. We can't wait to see what you create!
