Emmaus Catholic Primary School
Term 2 Week 8 Newsletter: Friday 12 June 2026
Lord Jesus,
We believe in Your true presence in the Most Holy Eucharist.
Come into our hearts and lives today and heal what is broken, strengthen what is weak,
and bring miracles where they are needed most.
By the power of Your Body and Blood, help us to live in faith, walk in hope,
and love with all our hearts.
Amen.
Dear Parents and Guardians
Eucharist
Last weekend, our Eucharist celebrations began and were a truly special occasion. The students were beautifully prepared by Mr Caddy and Mrs Brown, who supported them with care, guidance, and dedication throughout their sacramental journey. The children participated with great respect and confidence, and it was wonderful to witness them take this important step in their faith. We are very proud of them and grateful for the commitment shown in preparing them so well. We wish our next group of Holy Communicants all the best for this weekend’s Eucharist Masses.
Feast of Corpus Christi
Over the weekend we celebrated the Feast of Corpus Christi, a significant feast in the Church calendar that reminds us of the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. We reflected on the importance of the Eucharist as the source of our faith, and how we are called to live out Christ’s love in our daily lives. It was a meaningful opportunity for prayer, reflection, and deepening our understanding of this sacred gift.
End of Term Focus
As we move into the end of Term 2, we have been speaking with students about the qualities of attitude and effort. These are two things we can all control each day. While success is something we often celebrate, it is important that our children understand that a positive attitude and consistent effort are what help them grow, improve and become the best version of themselves. This is a great opportunity to speak with your child at home about the importance of trying their best, showing resilience and approaching challenges with a positive mindset.
Mid-Year Report Update
As we head into the final few weeks of the term, I would like to share an important change to our Mid-Year Reports. Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) and the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) have mandated that all schools now assign an overall grade for each learning area, along with an overall effort rating. These grades reflect a student's current level of achievement in relation to the expected end-of-year standard for their year level.
This change is designed to provide a clearer indication of each student's progress towards the achievement standards outlined in the Western Australian Curriculum. Please see the attached letter below from Catholic Education Western Australia, which explains this change in more detail.
If you have any questions regarding your child's report, please do not hesitate to contact your child's classroom teacher.
Have a safe and wonderful weekend!
In Gratitude
Emma Fernandez

Dear Parents and Guardians
LIFELINK DAY IS COMING!
On Wednesday 10 June, three of our Year 6 student leaders, Hugo, Isabella and Evan, accompanied by Mrs Fernandez and Mrs Hackner, attended the 2026 LifeLink Launch Day at Corpus Christi College.
The Archbishop's LifeLink Appeal is an annual fundraising initiative of the Archdiocese of Perth that supports a range of Catholic welfare and social service agencies. Since its establishment in 1994, LifeLink has helped thousands of vulnerable people in our community, including those experiencing homelessness, unemployment, domestic violence, social isolation and financial hardship.
At Emmaus, our students continually demonstrate compassion, generosity and a commitment to serving others. Through initiatives such as Wheelchairs for Kids, Caritas Project Compassion, the Swan Valley Memory Café, St Vincent de Paul and LifeLink, our students actively put their faith into action, reaching out to those in need and making a positive difference in the lives of others.
Inspired by the launch day, our Discipleship Committee is already eagerly planning this year's LifeLink project. We look forward to working together as a school community to support these life-changing agencies and continue our mission of caring for the most vulnerable members of society.
As always, we thank our Emmaus families for their generosity and kindly ask for your support as we prepare for our 2026 LifeLink fundraising efforts. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.
Mrs Hackner
FIRST EUCHARIST WORKSHOP
On Tuesday 2 June, the Year 4 class, as well as First Holy communicants from Year 5 were treated to a day of activities to learn about the Eucharist.
Some of the activities included:
- Godly play, to learn about the feeding of the Five Thousand.
- The process of allowing water colours to mix, to learn about transformation and the presence of God in our lives.
- Preparing the altar, to learn about the sacred vessels.
- Using wax to decorate candles with the symbols of Eucharist.
- Making bread.
- Having a shared meal of bread and ‘wine’.
It was a superb day of learning through activities, at the end of which the presenter commended all the children for their manners, behaviour and participation.
SACRAMENT OF EUCHARIST
Last weekend, a number of our Emmaus students received the Sacrament of the Eucharist at St Helena of the Holy Cross Parish, marking an important milestone in their faith journey. This Saturday, another group of students will be blessed to receive this sacred sacrament for the first time, sharing in the Body of Christ and deepening their relationship with God.
As a school community, we congratulate these students and their families on this special occasion. May God continue to guide and bless them as they grow in faith, love and service, and may the Eucharist strengthen them on their journey as disciples of Christ.
CONGRATULATIONS TO:
Xavier C., Emme S., Kaylee C., Matilda C., Evangeline C., Lexi D., April J., Mia K., Antonio P., Salieghah A., Kalani M., Liam T., Lucas T., Charles T., Donald T.
CLEO'S FIRST "EMMAUS WAY AWARD" RECIPIENT!
Congratulations to Hazel W, the very first recipient of the Emmaus Way Award!
This special award recognises a member of our school community who consistently exemplifies the Emmaus values and spirit, serving as an outstanding role model for others. Hazel was nominated by our staff in recognition of the many wonderful qualities she demonstrates each day, reflecting what it truly means to live The Emmaus Way.
As this term's recipient, Hazel now has the special privilege of being Cleo's companion until the next award winner is announced. We can't wait to follow Cleo's adventures with Hazel and read all about them in Cleo's journal!
Take a look at the wonderful qualities and behaviours that earned Hazel this special recognition...
DISCO FEVER HITS EMMAUS!
Disco fever was in full swing last week as students from Kindy to Year 6 hit the dance floor across three fun-filled disco sessions!
Our Kindy students enjoyed their very own exclusive dance party, arriving dressed to impress and proudly showing off their best dance moves. Later in the week, our Pre-Primary to Year 6 students rounded off the week with exciting evening disco sessions hosted by Bop Til You Drop.
The dance floor was buzzing with energy, from impressive disco moves and lively conga lines to enthusiastic karaoke performances by some brave budding singers. There were plenty of smiles, laughter and memorable moments throughout the night.
A huge thank you to our P&F, parent volunteers and staff members who helped make the discos such a fantastic success. We loved seeing everyone join in the fun and can't wait for the next one!

UNIFORM REMINDER
In the last newsletter a reminder was given in regard to correct uniform items across the grades. While there has been a significant improvement, there still remains a number of children not wearing ties or wearing running shoes with the formal uniform. Please can parents follow this up by purchasing these items in line with the uniform requirements. See the attachment below for the uniform list.
ST VINCENT DE PAUL WINTER APPEAL
The biggest THANK YOU to all who donated to our 2026 St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. At last Friday's assembly, our dear friend Mr D'Almeida from the St Vincent de Paul Guildford Conference visited our students and as well as collecting our bags, boxes, sacks and crates filled with lots of winter items, thanked our students and parents enormously for the ongoing generosity of our school community. A special thanks to our Year 6 Discipleship Committee who organised the collection this term.
SACRED SAINTS INDIGENOUS CARNIVAL
Our students recently represented Emmaus at the Sacred Saints Indigenous Carnival, participating in AFL, soccer and netball. Despite the rainy conditions throughout much of the day, our students demonstrated incredible resilience, enthusiasm and school spirit. With two netball teams, two soccer teams and one AFL team taking part, the focus of the carnival was not on winning, but on participation, excellent sportsmanship and celebrating the values of teamwork and respect. We are extremely proud of the way our students embraced these values, encouraged one another and represented Emmaus with pride. Well done to the Year 5s and 6s that took part!
THANK YOU P&F
Through the generosity of parents who have supported our fundraising efforts, the P&F have generously gifted $6 000 to the school for the purchase of assorted Mathematics resources in support of the school's strategic focus in the Numeracy area across the grades.
The teachers have worked together to sift through materials and have prioritised a great range of manipulatives as well as awesome math-linked books. Our books have arrived and are already widely used! Many thanks to our parents and P&F for this much appreciated support. Watch this space for the future arrival of hands-on resources.
KINDERGARTEN HOSPITAL INCURSION
Mrs Hawrylak came to talk to us about visiting a hospital so we know what to expect if we have to go to hospital and don’t feel anxious. She showed us how doctors and nurses care for us when we go to hospital. We participated in lots of activities, role playing, puzzles, books, skeleton drawing, playing with hospital vehicles, a big skeleton puzzle and taking turns to ride in a wheelchair. We learnt so much and had a great morning. Thank you, Mrs Heneghan, for helping us.
SEDA COLLEGE - THANKS!
A sincere thanks to the group of students from SEDA College and the staff who visited us this week working on areas around our school such as the greenhouse, the yarning circle and helping install our new signs along the island of our driveway to Kiss N Drop (the signs are the 10 most common languages of our school population).
We are very thankful to you for your help and look forward to your continued help here at Emmaus CPS!

WELLBEING IN YEAR 4
When the children have worked well all day, and need some well-being time, what better way than to play board games with friends, or have some free time to draw.
In this way the children build strong social bonds and resilience, and stress relief is ensured. During this time staff have also been able to engage in student check-ins as well as foster skills for healthy relationships.
