Mac High's Unity Week! Mac High's Unity Week!

One of the traditions at the high school is a focus on unity during February. A project of the student ASB leadership, activities are planned each day to bring the student body together and celebrate getting to know each other better.

Today, was "Toast to Students" with kids saluting each other, their teachers and themselves with apple juice.

Students wrote down and posted what they were toasting to themselves so others could read their tributes.

"Take What You Need" ribbons show others what you need that day. Yellow=happiness, white=a new beginning, pink=companionship.

The hallways are filled with notes of gratitude, hopes for the future and things students (and staff) want others to know about them.

ThoughtExchange Results

You may have heard that the statewide mask mandate will be lifted on March 19. We are continuing to gather input from our stakeholders while we await updated guidance from the Oregon Department of Education and want to share the results of the recent ThoughtExchange.

Here’s a report that includes all thoughts ranked from highest to lowest by the participants in the exchange. Thank you to everyone who took time to weigh in!

Our Staff is Awesome! Our Staff is Awesome!

Congratulations to Memorial’s Clark Granger, named one of three finalists in a competition of school custodians across the U.S. and Canada!

The winner will be named in mid-May and will have a choice among some pretty fabulous prizes! Read more here.

Winter Sports Championships

Senior Collin Bushey earned silver in two events to help lead the Grizzlies to 7th place in the state swim meet last Saturday.

MHS qualified seven wrestlers to the state championships this weekend after finishing 3rd at the Pacific Conference districts. Seniors Ethan Zook and Chris Dillworth and sophomore Bradley Woolridge were runners up; and senior Lucien Lefebvre and juniors Cameron Anderson and Max Vander Meide were also in the top three.

Both the boys and girls basketball teams play their final regular season games tonight with playoff implications on the line. Good luck to everyone!

Community Conversation about Graduation

In 2021, the state legislature directed the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) to review state high school graduation requirements. Oregon’s Kitchen Table a program funded through Portland State University, is working to gather input from people across the state about this topic.

Oregon’s Kitchen Table will hold an online (Zoom) community conversation for community members, parents and students (including recent high school graduates) in our region on March 17, from 6 to 8 p.m.
