Edison Newsletter!September 3rd, 2024

Dear Edison Family,

What an incredible week it has been! We had a fantastic time celebrating Grandparents' Week. It was heartwarming to see the special connections between our students and their grandparents as they spent time together in the classroom.

Our kindergarten and first-grade students also had an amazing time attending the high school homecoming pep rally. Their excitement and school spirit were contagious, and it was a wonderful experience to be part of the broader community.

Looking ahead, don’t forget about our upcoming Fall into Learning Family Night on September 24th from 5:30–7:00 PM. It’s going to be a great evening filled with fun activities and opportunities to engage with your child’s learning journey.

As Mr. Rogers once said, “When we talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary.” Let’s continue to foster open communication and connection within our school community.

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you at our family night!

Reading and Writing at home: We do a great deal of reading and writing at school. Parents/Guardians, if you could help us out by helping your kiddos with their home work, also reading to them, and having them write something short and age appropriate (pre-k: trace some letters, Kinder: write a few short words, 1st grade: write a short sentence), would go a long way.

Homework Reminder: I want to take this opportunity to encourage all parents to support their children with their homework. Your involvement in your child's education plays a crucial role in their academic success. By working together, we can ensure that our students are reaching their full potential.

Parental Involvement: Research consistently shows that students perform better in school when their parents are actively involved in their education. I am proud to share that our school has seen a significant increase in parental engagement over the past year. Let's keep up this positive momentum as we work together to support our children's learning journey.

Summer School Update: I must inform you that there will not be summer school offered this year for attendance recovery. Therefore, it is imperative that your student attend school on time each and every day unless they are sick.

New school policy: Parents, we will not allow early pick up of students after 3pm, including Doctors appointments, etc...

Thank you, and have a blessed week!

Join the 2024-2025 School Health Advisory Council!

The Gainesville ISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is a group of dedicated individuals representing segments of the community, to provide advice to the district on coordinated school health programming and its impact on student health and learning. The SHAC assists the district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in the district's health education instruction.

The SHAC will meet four times throughout the year: September 19, October 24, February 20, March 27. All meetings will be held at the administration building from 5:30 - 6:30 pm.

To join the 2024-2025 SHAC, please complete this >>>google form>>>

SHACs provide an efficient, effective structure for recommending age-appropriate, sequential health education programs, and early intervention and prevention strategies that can easily be supported by local families and community stakeholders. Every independent school district is required by law to have a SHAC. The majority of members must be parents who are not employees of the GISD. All parents are invited to attend the SHAC meetings.

Join the GISD Parent Advisory Committee!

Dr. Stewart would like to invite our GISD parents and guardians to join the 2024-2025 Parent Advisory Committee (P.A.C.). We recognize that parental involvement is one of the cornerstones of a thriving educational community. The P.A.C. provides a platform for parents like YOU to contribute to the shaping of the future of GISD. Your insights, perspectives, and ideas are invaluable as we navigate the exciting challenges and opportunities that come with a growing city and school district.

There are four meetings scheduled for the year: October 9, December 11, February 12, April 9. All meetings are held from 5:30 - 7pm. Each meeting will cover a variety of topics and will give you the opportunity to discuss important topics within GISD and public education.
