Principal's Corner
Hello, FamiLEE!
We've had an amazing week at Lee High School! Last night's opening of A Monster Calls was a great success! The performance truly showcased the collaboration among everyone in our school community -- from students and staff to families and friends. Everyone's hard work is appreciated! If you weren't able to attend last night, please make plans to attend one of the other public shows.
We also finished make-up testing this week. Almost all of our students participated, and we're so thankful for your cooperation to make sure they were here. If for any reason your student isn't able to come to school, please make sure you send attendance emails to LHS.Attendance@hsv-k12.org. We want to make sure the attendance is coded correctly.
Have an amazing weekend!
Sincerely,
Kitrise Torain
LHS Principal

- The Caring Link, a local nonprofit, recently and generously provided a Care Closet to Lee High School to help us meet the needs of our students. Their president, Kate O'Neal, is currently competing with much larger nonprofits to win the NASCAR Foundation's Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award, which will provide $100,000 to supply our school closets. To help her win, we need students, families, and school staff to please vote each day between now and Nov. 4th by clicking the link here.
- The Creative Writing Magnet now has merch -- but it's only available for a limited time! To grab your t-shirt, hoodie, tote bag, or mug, click here. All proceeds will support our nationally recognized LHS Harmoniouslee literary magazine!
- The Lee/New Century JROTC program will honor our veterans in a Veteran's Day Ceremony on November 10th at 10 a.m. in the theater. If you or a family member has served in the U.S. military and would like to be recognized, please complete the form linked here.
- Harmoniouslee, Lee's literary magazine, is accepting submissions from student authors and artists through November 1st for consideration for publication. Check out the flyer below in the Magnet Minute section for more information. This opportunity is available to all students, not just those in the creative writing magnet!
- LHS FamiLEE t-shirts are on sale now! Students can purchase them from Mrs. Stewart with cash or on MySchoolFees using the QR code below, and we will give the shirt(s) to your student. All sizes are available!
- We are encouraging all students and faculty to support and snap some Lee gear even if you are not currently in a physical education course!! Here's the link to order: https://lee-high-school-phys-ed.itemorder.com/shop/home/
- Show your school spirit by participating in our football game theme days! Please see the picture below for who we play, when we play them, and how we’re dressing for the games! We only have 1 more game day to participate!
FamiLEE Spotlight
Congratulations to our FamiLEE spotlight this week, Ms. Autumn Kisor. Ms. Radowski nominated her saying, "She is quick to say yes and help make things happen. I appreciate her commitment to the Magnet as a whole." Ms. Thompson said Ms. Kisor works quickly to complete tasks that are helpful for everyone. Students say she helps keep everything organized and running smoothly. We are blessed to have Ms. Kisor as part of our FamiLEE!
Shout-Outs
- Shout out to Freshman of the Week Seraphina Suttlar, who comes to us from AAA Middle School. She is part of the Visual Arts Magnet here at Lee High. In her spare time, she enjoys drawing and playing video games. When she graduates from high school, she plans to attend college and pursue a career as an animator or video game developer. Her favorite teacher at Lee is Ms. Echols because she is very helpful and explains things in a way that everyone can understand.
- Shout out to Freshman of the Week Dylan Jefferson, who also comes to us from AAA Middle School. He is interested in joining the football team and a magnet program next year. In his spare time, he enjoys reading and taking walks around his neighborhood. After high school, he plans to attend college and is interested in a career in video gaming. His favorite teacher at Lee is Mr. Jordan because he is very helpful and understanding when it comes to learning math.
- Shout out to Lucas Turner, our Harmoniouslee editor-in-chief, for teaching the first-year Creative Writing Magnet authors the basics of literary magazines and how to begin designing the personal lit mags they'll publish their senior year!
Magnet Minute
Magnet parents and guardians, the interest meeting for our New York magnet trip will be Monday, October 27th, at 5 p.m. in the theater. Please scan the QR code on the flyer below for more information.
The Theatre Performance and Technical Theatre magnets opened A Monster Calls last night, and their performance for Morris Middle School 8th graders this morning included a Q&A with cast and crew. They'll perform again the 24th & 25th, followed by District Competition October 31st. Please see the flyer below to purchase tickets and support!
On October 21st, Mary Grace Waggoner from the Huntsville Music Collective visited the Creative Writing Magnet authors. She collaborated with them on two different activities: first, authors shared their original pieces while she improvised background music to them; second, she played a longer piece, and the authors wrote and shared pieces based on her music.
First block theater students are working on a Theme & Prop project where each student selects a specific theme and prop and create a 60-90 second movement piece based on their selections. Along with this project, students are working on their group chrome piece for the dance show in November.
2nd and 3rd block theater students have been hard at work on their Individual Events for Trumbauer. Friday, Oct 17th, we had 3 special guests come to assist adjudicating the students' pieces. Now students are working on applying those notes and perfecting their pieces for District Competition on Nov 1st.
- Fall magnet applications opened October 17th! Check out the flyer below for more information on our conservatories and areas of study.
Announcements
The LHS soccer teams are having a yard sale on Saturday, Oct. 25th. If you'd like to donate items, please email Coach Matzkind at Kurtis.Matzkind@hsv-k12.org.
New HCS Wireless Communication Device Policy: We want to inform you about an important update to our school policies in response to a new state law. On May 14, 2025, Governor Kay Ivey signed the FOCUS Act (Freeing Our Classrooms of Unnecessary Screens for Safety) into law. This law, which went into effect July 1, 2025, requires public schools across Alabama to limit student use of wireless communication devices during the instructional day to improve focus, safety, and engagement. In compliance with this law, Huntsville City Schools will implement a district-wide Wireless Communication Device (WCD) Policy beginning Fall 2025. Please click here to review the new HCS Wireless Communication Device policy.
Attendance
We want your child to be in school with us every day! Attendance is the most important factor in your child's academic success. We can't teach children who aren't at school. We have a goal of 95% this year. Please help us reach this goal by ensuring your child is here every day. If you child has to be out, please send excuses to LHS.attendance@hsv-k12.org.
