Cell Phones, Smart Glasses, and Technology
Student use of personal electronic items (cell phones, gaming devices, etc.) are not permitted at Veritas School unless used with specific permission and proper supervision of the teacher for project-based learning. If brought to school, electronic devices, including cell phones, are to be kept in the student’s locker (grades 6-9) or in the student’s backpack (grades 5 and under). Devices must be powered off during school hours, including recess and lunch breaks.
Students who use personal electronic items without permission or inappropriately will have their items confiscated and held for parents to collect. Continued violation of electronic use will result in an escalation in consequences.
Parents/Guardians may not contact their child via their cell phone during the school day, as students are required to power off their devices. Please call the school office directly at 250-635-3035 if you wish to contact your child or leave your child a message.
Smart glasses (such as Meta Glasses), wearable cameras and recording devices, and AI recording technology are not permitted on Veritas School property out of concern for safety and privacy.
New Kindergarten Swings
New and larger swings in the kindergarten playground have been installed! A huge thank you to our Veritas Parent Support Group for their fundraising, which led to the purchase and installation of new swings! Another huge thank you to Mr. Ramsay, Mr. Link, and the Knights of Columbus for their work and assistance in the installation!
Seesaw
If you are new to Veritas this year, please don't delay in accepting your emailed invitation to Seesaw so you receive all information from Veritas School and your child's teacher!
Parent To-Do List
- Tuition and School Fees: Please ensure the blue payment option forms have been completed. Blue forms were sent home in the beginning of June to returning students and mailed home in July to new families. Most families who were enrolled at Veritas last year have completed their forms. If you require a new form, please stop by the school office. The email for e-transfers is veritasaccounting@cispg.ca.
- Criminal Record Check: All parents must have a CRC on file at the school office before volunteering in any school activities. Please follow this link https://justice.gov.bc.ca/criminalrecordcheck and use this Access Code: DLTLFMPHUE
- Driver's Abstract: All volunteer field trip drivers must have a current driver's abstract on file before volunteering as a driver on a school field trip. Driver's abstracts must be renewed when your driver's license is renewed. To complete your driver's abstract, please visit https://onlinebusiness.icbc.com/clio/. Vehicle insurance must also be on file and a new copy provided when your insurance is renewed. A copy of your drivers license is also required.
- Medications: All students with regular or emergency medications, including inhalers and epi pens, must complete the appropriate forms and provide medication that remains at the school throughout the year. If this applies to your family, please contact the school office for the forms. Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to keep your child safe!
- After School Care: After School Care (ASC) begins on Wednesday, September 9. All forms, including immunization records, must be submitted prior to your child attending ASC. Please call or visit the school office for ASC forms or to update your child's existing information.
Additional Notes
- VPSG: The first VPSG meeting is on Monday, September 14 at 7:00 in the grade 1 classroom. We invite all parents to attend, as many hands make for light work!
- School Council: The first School Council meeting is on Thursday, September 10 at 7:00 pm. The meeting begins with an open invitation to all, before we move to the in-camera portion of the meeting.
- Hot Lunch: The link for ordering Hot Lunch from the VPSG will be shared in the next few days, with the first Hot Lunch on Wednesday, September 16. All lunch orders must be placed a minimum of one week prior. The grade 2 class is responsible for Hot Lunch in September and the grade 3 class is responsible for Hot Lunch in October.
- Before School Supervision: The supervision of students prior to the 8:35 bell begins at 8:20 and is limited to the front of the school and the parking lot area. For the safety of our students, students are not permitted on any playground equipment (front playground or kindergarten area) or in the fields before school hours as these areas are not supervised before school.
- Absentee Notes: Please contact the school explaining your child's absences with a Seesaw message to "Office Staff" and your child's teacher or a phone call (250-635-3035). Absentee reports are crucial to our school's funding, as numerous unexplained absences throughout the school year can mean less government funding for your child.
