Bulldog News
Ravenna Middle School
Notes from Mrs. Postema
We are off to a great start at RMS. An amazing turnout for Bulldog Night set a positive tone for the start of the school year. Students are finding their rhythm with daily routines and actively participating in their learning. It has been wonderful to see our building come to life!
Parent-Teacher Conferences are quickly approaching and will be held Tuesday, October 6, and Thursday, October 8. Parents must sign up for a specific conference time with their student’s teachers in advance; conferences are not drop-in. Please watch for a message from the school with instructions for reserving your time slot. The first marking period ends on Friday, October 16, making this an excellent opportunity to connect with teachers and check on progress.
Finally, we had a great week celebrating Homecoming! From dress-up days and doorway decorating to an all-school pep assembly, students and staff showed amazing school spirit. RMS is a great place to be!

Athletics
Every practice has a purpose: building chemistry, mastering strategies, or refining core skills. Beyond the overall practice plan, success comes down to the individual athlete’s intent. Great athletes approach every drill with focus, but for middle schoolers, practicing with purpose is a skill that must be sparked and nurtured. Middle School Athletics serves as the vital bridge between youth sports and high school, where student-athletes first learn how to practice with purpose.
One of the most effective habits a young athlete can build is talking directly with their coaches—asking how to grow individually and how to best contribute to the team. Taking that initiative isn't easy for a 7th or 8th grader, but learning to seek feedback and lead now pays dividends for a lifetime.
When athletes understand their role and know exactly which skills to sharpen, practice changes instantly. Going through the motions disappears. Focused athletes improve faster, bring higher energy, and elevate the entire team.
Please join us in encouraging your student-athlete to talk with their coach this week. Remind them to ask about their strengths, their areas for growth, and how they can best serve the team.
At RMS, we are building a culture where students actively seek growth and pursue excellence in everything they do. Parents and families play a crucial role in bringing this vision to life.
By guiding our middle school athletes to practice with purpose today, we prepare them for lasting success—in competition, in the classroom, and across our community.
