Wiggin Street Parent Update
October 14, 2024
Better Together
Families,
We hope you had a nice weekend. I want to remind you that there is no school this Friday, October 18th, due to Teacher Inservice. We have lots of fun activities coming up this month. Please note that Wiggin Street will be having their Fall Harvest Parade and classroom parties on Friday, November 1st. More information can be found below regarding all of the upcoming events.
Students who receive 50 PBIS points this quarter will be rewarded with an extra "magical" recess with Kenyon athletes on Thursday. We look forward to celebrating with them.
Lastly, we are excited to announce that our school has been awarded the Bronze Recognition Award for our Tier 1 Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS)! Buildings/programs in the first year can only apply for Bronze Level recognition. In the second year of PBIS implementation or beyond, schools can apply for Bronze, Silver, or Gold Level Recognition. Our staff and students have embraced the theme of being "Rooted in Respect", and it has positively impacted our students, staff, and community.
Best wishes,
Christy Grandstaff
2nd Grade Field Trip to Brown Family Environmental Center
The second grade had a beautiful fall day at the BFEC learning about animal habitats. Mrs. Kramp's first grade class was also able to join them this year.
Third Grade Fall Ohio State Testing
On October 22nd and 23rd, 3rd grade students will take the Fall administration of the state English Language Arts Assessment. In case of absence, the make up day will be October 24th. The test will take place between 9:30-11:30 on these days. We would ask that you please not schedule any special appointments for these dates.
PTO Corner
Our next Friends of Wiggin Street meeting will be November 5th at 5:00 pm. Parent/Teacher Conferences are November 6th-7th, and we will also be having the Scholastic Book Fair in the gym. We are in need of volunteers to help with the Book Fair. If available, please sign up below. Thank you!
Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair will be open during Parent/Teacher Conferences. Students will also be able to create a wish list and/or purchase items on Wednesday, November 6th during school hours. A digital e-wallet shopping link will be provided prior to the sale that can be shared with family and friends.
Pumpkins on Parade
Beginning at 5 pm on Tuesday, October 29th, your family is invited to bring a blanket or chairs to sit on the front lawn of Wiggin Street to decorate a pumpkin. Each child or family needs to bring their own pumpkin and Friends of Wiggin Street will provide decorations. Parents are expected to stay with their children and help them to create a boo-tiful pumpkin creation. The event will last from 5-7 pm.
Bring your own pumpkin Tuesday night, 10/29 (we’ll provide the decorations!) Food Trucks will be onsite for dinner!
Fall Harvest Parade and Parties
We are excited for our parade and parties on November 1st! Children are invited to participate in our annual costume parade. The parade will begin at 2:15 with parties following. The exception is 3rd grade who has a party before the parade due to specials from 2:45-3:30.
Costumes should come to school in a bag and childrenshould be able to get in and out of their costumes easily. (If you feel your child needs help with his/her costume, please contact the classroom teacher.) Please make sure that there are no scary costumes because of our younger students. There should be no Halloween masks. No pretend weapons of any kind are permitted at school even as a part of the costume. Please save those for trick-or-treat night.
We ask parents not to pass out treats along the route, however some of the local businesses may pass out candy to kids. Our PTO will be providing bags for the treats they get along the way.
Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon Coats for Kids
Has your child outgrown their coat? We have a box in our office entryway for Coats for Kids to be donated. Check out this Knox Pages article for more information. Coats for Kids article
Art to Remember
"I'm excited to be partnering with Art to Remember this year. Students are beginning to work on projects in Art class that I will be sending to Art to Remember soon. Closer to the end of October parent order forms and information will be coming home and orders can be placed in early November for items that you may want to purchase for your family or family members and friends. The items will arrive before Christmas break to ensure that you will have them to give as gifts if you would like. There is no obligation or pressure to participate but instead, I hope that you find that this is a wonderful opportunity to capture your child's artwork to cherish for years to come! More information to come soon! ~Mrs. Biggerstaff"
