Make it Happen This May! Make it Happen This May!

As we step into May—a month that celebrates fresh starts, hardworking dreamers (hello, National Small Business Week and Mother’s Day), and the spirit of remembrance with Memorial Day—it's the perfect time to reflect on the kind of life and work we want to build. Whether you're honoring the resilience of those who raised us or recognizing your own drive to break free from traditional career paths, May reminds us that growth comes from planting the right seeds. If you’ve been thinking about what it would mean to truly own your future—your income, your time, your impact—this season might just be your sign to explore business ownership more seriously. Let’s make this your month of momentum.

All my best,
Sara

Business Ownership Objection #4: I Don't Have a Business Idea Business Ownership Objection #4: I Don't Have a Business Idea

One of the most common roadblocks people face when considering business ownership is the belief that they need to come up with a brilliant, original idea to get started. The pressure to innovate something brand new—something no one has thought of before—can feel overwhelming, especially if creativity isn’t your natural strength. But here’s the truth: you don’t need a groundbreaking idea to become a successful business owner.

There are actually three distinct paths to business ownership: starting a business from scratch (the traditional startup model), buying an existing business (acquisition), and investing in a franchise. Most people are only familiar with the startup path—where you build a brand, product, or service from the ground up. While this can be rewarding, it’s also the riskiest and requires the most creative input, time, and capital.

Acquisitions and franchises, however, offer two alternative routes that are often overlooked. When you acquire a business, you're stepping into something that already has a proven customer base, cash flow, and operational history. With the right support and diligence, it can be a smart and efficient way to become an owner without reinventing the wheel. Franchising, meanwhile, allows you to align with an established brand that has systems, support, and a scalable model already in place. You don’t need to design the menu, build the tech, or figure out the marketing plan—it’s all been done for you.

This means that even if you don’t consider yourself “the creative type,” business ownership is still very much within your reach. These models are ideal for individuals who are process-driven, operationally minded, and motivated to lead and grow something without starting from zero. Instead of asking, “What’s my big idea?” a better question might be, “What kind of life do I want to build—and which business model could help me get there?”

So if you’ve ruled out entrepreneurship because you don’t have a Shark Tank pitch in your back pocket, take a breath. You’re not out of options—you just haven’t been shown all the paths yet. Reach out to me and I'll walk you through them.
