Hello, Hawks:

Today, counselors met with current 9th through 11th graders to discuss forecasting. You should have received an email this afternoon from the counselors with the slidedeck of the presentation and any necessary updates. As I stated in our meeting today, take the time to plan for next year - we use the forecasting process to build our schedule. Don't be afraid to take challenging courses!

Speaking of counselors, last week was Counselor Appreciation Week! We have two wonderful counselors in Mrs. Christina Mackey-Greene and Mrs. Chantelle Henry. Our students are incredibly blessed to receive the guidance from these two amazing professionals. Thank you, Mrs. Mackey-Greene and Mrs. Henry, for all you do!

Some other big accomplishments:

  • Semester One Awards were last week, and I am so proud of our students. Click here to see all of the award recipients.
  • FBLA Winter Leadership Conference - 14 students qualified for state, and 12 received first place awards.
  • District Wrestling - Four wrestlers earned automatic bids to state, with several more this Wednesday battling for their spot.
  • North County Honor Band was this weekend, capped by a performance on Saturday night.

Our Hawks are amazing, and I impressed with them every day. Keep up the strong effort!

Upward Together: HSD's New Strategic Plan & Data Dashboard

February 10 Levy February 10 Levy

Remember to vote: Renewal Levy Supports Student Programs & School Operations

Hockinson School District has a measure on the ballot to renew funding for student programs and school operations. Remember to vote: mail ballots or drop ballots in a drop box by Tuesday, February 10.

Without levy funding, HSD would face difficult decisions including potential reduction or elimination of art & music programs, Advanced Placement & elective classes, sports & extracurricular activities, staffing to maintain small class sizes, school Nurses, extracurricular transportation, learning technology replacement cycles, textbooks & curriculum replacement cycles, security staff & school/family communication tools, and building maintenance.

Find more information on the HSD levy webpage or in this informational mailer.

Cold and Flu Prevention Cold and Flu Prevention

Here is some guidance from Nurse Lynn:

The flu spreads easily from person to person through coughs and sneezes. You can spread the flu to others before you know that you are sick.

People with flu often have:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Body aches
  • Fatigue (tiredness)
  • Headache
  • Vomiting or diarrhea

To avoid flu germs at school, practice the following good hygiene actions and stay home when sick for at least 24 hours after a fever is gone.

Personal Actions

  • Wash your hands: Wash hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds or by singing the Happy Birthday Song twice through. This is important after using the bathroom or after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose. Wash your hands or use Hand Sanitizer after you touch door handles to enter your school building or classroom and especially before and after you eat.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes: Use a tissue and throw it away immediately, or cough/sneeze into your elbow.
  • Avoid touching your face: Germs can enter your body through your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when sick: Stay home until you have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication, and your symptoms have improved.

New Strength and Conditioning Coach New Strength and Conditioning Coach

Hockinson High School Athletics is proud to announce the addition of Louden Seekins as our new Strength and Conditioning Coach. We are excited to welcome Louden back to the Hockinson community and look forward to the leadership, knowledge, and enthusiasm he brings to our athletic programs.

Louden is a Hockinson High School alumnus (Class of 2014) who has remained deeply connected to education, health, and youth development. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Health from Luther College and has built a diverse professional background that strongly aligns with the goals of high school athletic development

As Strength and Conditioning Coach, Louden’s focus will be on:

  • Teaching proper lifting technique and movement mechanics

  • Developing speed, strength, agility, and power safely

  • Supporting injury prevention and athletic longevity

  • Building confidence, discipline, and accountability in student-athletes

  • Creating an inclusive, positive training culture that supports all sports

We are excited for the impact Louden will have across all athletic programs and are confident his experience and passion will benefit our student-athletes both in-season and out of season.

Beginning January 12, strength and conditioning sessions will be offered multiple days per week to provide flexibility and access for all student-athletes. Sessions will include strength training, conditioning, speed development and jump training and are open to HHS students based on the designated group times listed below. Focus on Wednesday will be conditioning, speed and jump training.

Student-athletes are encouraged to attend consistently and arrive on time, ready to train. Sessions will emphasize proper preparation, safe progression, and accountability. Athletes should wear appropriate athletic clothing and footwear and be prepared to actively participate.

Students must have an account in Final Forms and join the Hawk Strength and Conditioning (under Activities) There is no cost to attend but attendance will be taken.
