October 2026

Note from the Principals
Dear Families,
As the weather turns colder, we want to remind everyone that winter is quickly approaching! Please ensure your children come to school dressed warmly each day with appropriate winter gear, including warm coats, hats, and gloves, so they can comfortably and safely enjoy outdoor recess and activities. If you need outdoor clothing for your student, please reach out to the front office.
Additionally, Mrs. Axemaker will be starting a "Meet with the Principal" event for parents! More details on dates and times will be coming soon.
Please take note of these important upcoming schedule reminders:
Monday, October 12, 2026: No School (Indigenous Peoples' Day)
Friday, October 16, 2026: No School for Students
Wednesday, October 28, 2026: Half-Day (Parent-Teacher Conferences)
Thursday, October 29, 2026: Half-Day (Parent-Teacher Conferences)
Friday, October 30, 2026: No School
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in keeping our students warm, safe, and ready to learn!
Mrs. Axemaker & Dr. Stewart
IMPORTANT Updates
SAEBRS
SAEBRS (Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener) is a short rating completed by classroom teachers. It looks at three important areas that support student success:
- Social behavior (e.g., cooperation with peers)
- Academic behavior (e.g., engagement in learning)
- Emotional behavior (e.g., managing feelings)
Teachers complete the screener based on their observations of students in the classroom, providing a snapshot of how students are doing in school. Teachers just completed our Beginning of Year ratings.
These tools are part of our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework and are integrated with our Social-emotional Learning (SEL) efforts. This also aligns with family and community input on increasing the use of student voice and addressing issues such as bullying in schools., Together, they help schools create safe, supportive environments where all students can thrive. See ASD's Mental Health and Student Support website for more info!
Tyson Dismissal Procedure
Take a look at the map below for dismissal procedures.
- Students who walk up the stairs will be released after the bell rings.
- Students who ride the bus will be released when the bell rings as well.
- All the rest of students, waiting for their rides to come to the front, will wait in their classrooms to be called out to the front when their ride communicates with the staff working the line that day.
- For adults parking and walking up to pick up your students, please approach a staff member outside to radio for them to come out front (please do not come into the office unless it is an emergency).

Raptor Visitor Management System
As part of our ongoing commitment to student safety, all visitors to Tyson are required to check in through the Raptor Visitor Management System. When you arrive, please be prepared to present a valid government-issued ID (such as a driver’s license) at the front office. The system quickly scans your ID and prints a visitor badge that must be worn while you’re in the building.
We appreciate your support in keeping our school safe and secure for all students and staff. More information can be found at: https://www.asdk12.org/raptor

Tyson PBIS
PBIS Updates: SAEBRS Screener
This year, our school will use a universal social-emotional-behavior screener during our assessment Fall (September), Winter (December), and Spring (April). It's called the Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener (SAEBRS). This screener helps teachers find needed classroom structures and identify students who might benefit from extra support. Our PBIS team will use this information to help us ensure that we are supporting all our students and meeting their social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Classroom teachers will rate students outside of learning time so no instructional time is lost. Please contact your principal with any questions.
