The AI Education Project -- aiEDU -- in partnership with the Burning Glass Institute will present "Reimagining Workforce Readiness in the Age of AI" at 5 p.m. April 23. Red Wing Public Schools will be front and center.

This session will provide concrete examples and data-driven insights on redefining workforce readiness for an era where AI is fundamentally reshaping professional work and shifting the skills that carry the most economic value. The session will introduce groundbreaking research from aiEDU and the Burning Glass Institute that builds a systematic bridge between modern workforce demand and the K-12 curriculum. Participants will explore the AI Readiness Framework — a diagnostic tool designed to help leaders determine where to deepen conceptual understanding, transform workflows, streamline procedures, or anchor instruction in irreducibly human practices.

Moving beyond theory, the session also will showcase how Red Wing Public Schools has actionized this research by integrating it directly into the Portrait of a Winger Graduate and the Flight Path 2030 strategic plan to prepare students for the future of work.

Allison Littfin, Mirja Stein (Allison's exchange student), Melina Pascazio (Josi's exchange student), Josi Johnson, and Evie Borgschatz are part of the Friendship Connection.

Students build international relationships Students build international relationships

Three students from RWHS and two from Germany are participating in the Friendship Connection. Over 44 years the exchange program has involved some 34,000 students from Germany and the U.S. Each year U.S. families are invited to host German students for three weeks in the spring while American students have an opportunity to travel to Germany for three weeks in the summer.

Red Wing High School has participated for over 25 years, and this year two German students were hosted by Allison Littfin and Josi Johnson. While Josi has been part of the "host only" program and has hosted for the past three years, Allison is hosting for the first time. This summer Allison will travel to Germany to stay with Mirja as part of the "full exchange" program. Evie Borgschatz participated last year in the full exchange, and she had a wonderful time hosting and then spending three weeks with her host family in Germany.

Taking tech skills into competition

Tower View participated in the annual FIRST Robotics Competition held at the University of Minnesota, Mariucci Arena April 2-4. Their robot performed admirably and the students did a wonderful job the entire three days. Tower View student Jaz Uecker sang an amazing rendition of the National Anthem in front of a packed house. Dominic Galicia stated he "enjoyed being there and just in general being able to experience the competition. I think a lot of the other teams were very welcoming and cool to talk, too." The Xcel Energy Foundation was among the sponsoring organizations.

Purple Up!

Volunteers came to Grade 5 classrooms Monday, celebrating the "Month of the Military Child." In advance of Purple Up! Day April 15, 2026, students listened to a story about service and then were able to ask questions of the presenters about their service. The month underscores the important role military children play in the armed forces community. Purple Up! is a day to wear purple, representing the combined colors of all military branches.

Embracing opportunities to explore elements of nature

Grade 2 students spent time this past week at Quarry Hill Nature Center in Rochester. This activity is made possible through a grant from the Red Wing Public Schools Foundation. See more photos on the Burnside Facebook page. The RWPSF was established in 1995 to enhance the experience of Red Wing students and continues to do so because of generous donor support.
