LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Santa Rita Families,
I hope you all enjoyed a refreshing Spring Break last week! It’s hard to believe we only have six weeks left of the school year. To help your student finish on a high note, please continue to prioritize on-time attendance and consistent homework habits. A good night’s sleep will also go a long way in helping them stay focused and successful as we head toward summer!
A Special Saturday: Junior Olympics at MVHS
One of my favorite LASD traditions returns this Saturday, April 18th: 4th–6th Grade Junior Olympics!
There is something truly special about seeing our Santa Rita Bobcats compete. Beyond the races and events, what brings a smile to my face is the overwhelming sense of sportsmanship and support our athletes show one another. I look forward to joining our Los Altos families for a day filled with kindness and school pride.
For more information on the day's schedule and results, please visit the official Junior Olympics website.
Thank you to our lead volunteers Dolly & Herb Marshall and Sherri Rose. I appreciate all the time and effort they have put into this event. Our students are well prepared and super excited for this year's event.

When Parents Understand Online Behavior, Kids Feel Safer Talking
We’re also offering bonus events this month covering important topics for families who want to better support their child’s emotional health, focus, and daily habits. These live, online events are designed to give parents practical tools, helpful insight, and more confidence in navigating the digital world with their kids.
April 22nd:
The Impact of Screen Time on Motivation, Health & Academics
On March 25, 2026, Almond, Covington, Gardner Bullis and Santa Rita 6th Grade bands performed at Egan Band Night at Egan Junior High School.
It was an evening filled with exciting music and a wonderful celebration of our students’ hard work. The elementary students at this event learned from junior high students about junior high music and general junior high expectations.
Music is truly flourishing in our district, and these performances highlight the creativity, dedication, and talent of our young musicians and music teachers - Mr. Gonzalez (Elementary), Mrs. Marcal (Elementary), and Ms. Spector (Egan).
Thank you to our families for supporting music in our schools and LAEF!
Thank you!
On behalf of the LASD band teachers

April is the Month of Courage
Congratulations to all the students who received a Courage Card this week. You were caught choosing what is helpful, right and kind, even when it’s hard or scary! We will call you up at the assembly tomorrow morning to honor you!
ParentSquare
We’re excited to share that we will soon adopt a new communication platform, ParentSquare, to better inform and connect you with your school community.
With ParentSquare, you’ll receive school communications (such as newsletters, early release notifications, and messages from the Principal) translated into your preferred language—via email, text, app, or web.
During our transition to ParentSquare, the district will be operating both communication platforms simultaneously to ensure the new system is fully functional before the final migration. Consequently, you may receive duplicate newsletters and notifications. We appreciate your cooperation and patience during this implementation period.
To get the most out of ParentSquare, we encourage you to download the free mobile app, available for iOS and Android. You can also access ParentSquare from your web browser at www.parentsquare.com.
BOBCAT STRONG NEWS
We look forward to seeing you this Saturday at LASD’s Junior Olympics, where students at our seven LASD elementary schools will compete in a variety of track and field events.
THANK YOU to our PE and Music teachers who’ve worked hard to prepare 4th-6th-grade students at each school to participate in this annual event! And thank you to those who’ve donated to LAEF to help fund teachers for TK-6th-grade PE, 4th-6th-grade music, and more. If you have yet to give this school year, donate to LAEF today and help keep our schools strong.
You are invited to attend the Stanford Graduate School of Education’s 2026 Cubberley Lecture with legendary storyteller, children’s literacy advocate, and beloved Reading Rainbow host LeVar Burton. This free event is on Thursday, May 7, at 5pm. Find out more and reserve a spot.
Art Docent Volunteer Open House
Bring art to life in our classrooms by joining the Art Docent program! Our wonderful team of volunteers teaches engaging art lessons to elementary students across the district—no artistic experience required. All you need is a love of creativity and a desire to work with children. Art Docents enjoy ongoing training, inspiring field trips, fun social events, and a strong sense of community.
Curious to learn more? Join us for a Volunteer Open House on May 7th from 9:00–10:30 AM in the Art Docent Office at 201 Covington Road. We’d love to meet you and share how you can get involved!
