Sunset Heights Principal Notes

NO SCHOOL - 4/27/26 - 5/1/26

On Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 9:30 AM, Sunset Heights Elementary will hold an Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) safety drill during the school day, and students will participate.

Please know this will be calm and age-appropriate.

What will happen:

• The principal will make an intercom announcement with simple directions.

• Classes will either:

• Avoid: calmly exit the building (similar to a fire drill), or

• Deny: stay in the classroom and secure/barricade the door.

• “Defend” will NOT be practiced.

This drill will NOT include:

• actors

• sound effects or simulated noises

• any physical interaction

The Nashua Police Department will be on campus to support the drill (most officers will be in plain clothes).

Thank you for your support as we continue working to keep our school safe.

Thank you to our parents/guardians and the entire Sunset Heights Elementary School community for your participation, cooperation, and patience during our onsite reunification drill this week. We are truly grateful for your understanding and for the effort you made to assist our staff in ensuring the safety and security of all students.

This exercise was an important part of our ongoing emergency preparedness efforts and helped us practice the process we would use to safely reunite students with their families during a real emergency. It was also amazing to see the collaboration in action with our law enforcement, fire department, and other emergency services.

Thank you again for working with us to keep our school community safe, organized, and prepared. If you would like to share feedback, you can complete the survey here: https://forms.gle/iauLwxCH2SfD3GZz8

Our Lost and Found is growing! If your child is missing any items, please remind them to take a

look. All unclaimed items will be donated on April 24.
