The Buzz
Summer Term - 16th April 2026
Message from the Head of School
Dear parents and carers,
I hope you all enjoyed a well-deserved break. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces coming through the gates this week; there is nothing better than the buzz of a happy school at the start of a new term.
HPPA – Bunny Bounce
Firstly, at the end of last term, a huge thank you to HPPA for organising our "Bunny Bounce” for all the classes. The children were absolutely thrilled to meet the Easter Bunny and take part in a day full of high-energy bouncing activities! Please click here to view our gallery photos.
Year 2 Kew Gardens
Our Year 2 students have been busy explorers. After a fantastic trip to Kew Gardens just before the break, today they went off to Carlisle Park. These enrichment trips are so valuable for our children, and we want to thank the staff for making them happen. Be sure to read the section below for more details on their outdoor learning.
HPP – Online Prospectus
We are delighted to officially launch our HPP online prospectus. There has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes and we are so proud of how it captures the spirit of our school. Please click on the link below to view the prospectus and keep an eye out for some lovely photos.
Amazon Wishlist
Our teachers have updated their Amazon Wish Lists with resources that will help support the children in their classes. If you would like to support your child’s classroom by purchasing an item, your generosity is always greatly appreciated. Please click on the link further down this newsletter to view the items and purchase them, please make sure you enter which year group the gift is for on your compliment slip.
Finally, have a lovely weekend when it arrives and thank you for your continued support with HISN.

Parking
Parking Incident
A local resident has brought an unpleasant incident to our attention. On Tuesday, 14th April, at approximately 4pm, a parking incident took place in Priory Road. A local resident has informed us of this incident and he has also reported it to the police who are looking into the matter.
We understand that this was witnessed by other parents who were collecting their children from after school clubs. If you were collecting your child at this time, and did witness this, please contact the office, in strictest confidence, as soon as possible.
Reminder to all parents to be considerate to our neighbours when dropping off and collecting your child. Do not park on zig-zag lines, double yellow lines or block neighbours driveways. Parking on zig-zag lines blocks visibility for both drivers and pedestrians, particularly young children who may be harder to see. Please park legally and considerately, and allow extra time to find appropriate parking. Even better – consider walking, cycling or using a park-and-stride location if possible.
Toy and Resource Safety in School
We have recently been asked how we ensure that all toys and resources are safe for the children to use and feel it would be helpful to share this information with all HISN families.
We are a local authority maintained school, and regularly receive advice from the Richmond and Kingston Health and Safety team with regards to our site, resources used with the children and practices and procedures within school.
We are careful with the resources we purchase and they all come from recognised suppliers with appropriate certification and we don't use budget suppliers.
Our staff are aware of these concerns and check items which are requested on the HPPA wishlist to ensure they are safe when delivered to school.
We do not regularly accept donated items, however, those we do accept are checked for quality before accepting them and we will refuse items which are damaged or not up to standard.
We hope this offers reassurance to our families but if you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.
National Offer Day
Today is National Offer Day for Year 2 children. You must respond by 30th April to accept or refuse this offer. You are advised to accept the school place offered to ensure your child has a school place, as you can always refuse this at a later date if you are then offered a school you prefer. This will not affect your child's position on any waiting lists of your higher preference school.
For those children moving to HJS it is vitally important that your Arbor account is up to date and all contact details are correct as they will be sending communications out shortly.

Language of the Month
Language of the month - Punjabi
In this week’s assembly, and as part of ‘language of the month’ we are celebrating Punjabi. A special thank you to Arya L from 1D, who shared her story about her Sikh faith. We were all fascinated to learn about the kara—the beautiful bangle she wears as a symbol of her beliefs.
Year 2
We hope you all had a restful and refreshing break. Year 2 have returned full of energy and enthusiasm, ready to dive into another exciting half term of learning.
We ended the Spring Term on a high note with many memorable moments including our visit to Kew Gardens, thank you to all helpers who were able to support us. The children had a wonderful time exploring the natural world, discovering new plants, and enjoying a day of hands-on outdoor learning. Back in the classroom, their experiences inspired some incredible recount writing in English. Their pieces were bursting with vivid descriptions, thoughtful details, and a real sense of excitement—it was clear just how much the visit had captured their imaginations.
This term, we’ve launched into a new English text, ‘The Tiger Child’ by Joanna Troughton, a traditional Indian folk tale that tells the story of how the first pet cat came to be and layered with important messages about patience and listening, the story has sparked thoughtful discussions. The children have been exploring features of tigers, village settings, sequencing events, retelling key moments, and exploring characters’ actions and motivations. We’re now building the skills needed to write our own imaginative versions of the tale over the next two weeks.
In maths, we’ve been exploring division by grouping into equal groups and what happens when there is a remainder. We have worked in groups to see what grouping looks like before writing addition, multiplication and division number sentences.
In art this term we are going to be looking at printing. We began this week with our trip to Carlisle Park where the children explored textures in nature by making detailed rubbings of tree bark, benches, and pathways. Back at school, they will use the collected leaves and other materials to create beautiful textured prints full of colour and intricate patterns.
We’ve also embarked on an inspiring new history topic: the History of Nursing. The children have begun learning about the lives and legacies of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole—two pioneering women who transformed healthcare during the Crimean War. We are excited about our upcoming Florence Nightingale Workshop next week.
It’s already shaping up to be another brilliant term in Year 2, and we can’t wait to see what the coming weeks will bring!
