MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Fowler Family,

We would like to say thank you for providing breakfast for our classified staff last week. We do appreciate our classified staff all year long, but it goes such a long way to spend a week celebrating this amazing group, and the PSO breakfast was the highlight of the week!

We rolled out our “On Time Audit” (formerly referred to as a sweep) this week. Teachers reviewed attendance expectations in advance and students had fair warning that we are tightening our expectations around on-time behavior. All staff noticed an improved student effort in getting to class during all periods on Tuesday, and when we actually did our audit, approximately 487 out of 500 students prioritized timely attendance. That is actually amazing to see 97.5% of students responding to our clarified expectation of being in class on time. We offered corrective conversations, collected names, and then immediately helped students get right back to class.

Spring break is only one week away! I know students need and deserve a break from school, but it also does not hurt to encourage them to select a good book or spend some time on iReady over the break to keep skills sharp. I’m forcing my own middle schooler to check out a book before Spring Break and I hope I can actually entice her to swap out her dreaded social media device for some novel reading a few times. (The struggle is real.)

A week from tomorrow is Spring Break. There will be no school March 27-March 31

Affinity Groups and REAP will run through this Thursday, March 23.

This week the PSO will be collecting change this week on behalf of the Foundation for Tigard Tualatin Schools. In an effort to encourage our students to help reach their goal of $1,000, they have wrangled our Admin into the following incentives:

If we reach $500, the administrators will do a TikTok dance for the student body.
If we reach $750, students (who are to be determined) will get to throw a whip-cream pie in the administrator's face(s).
When we reach $1,000, Ms. Pellicci will cut and style Mr. Van Fleet’s hair to match hers!

We are looking forward to watching the thermometer rise!

Applications for AVID next year are now open! Please encourage your 6th or 7th grader to apply for this year-long elective. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is rooted in the belief that all students can succeed if they have the desire, tools, and opportunity to do so. In middle school, AVID is designed to help students prepare for and succeed in high school and college. Students in AVID learn skills such as organization, public speaking, self-advocacy, note-taking, study skills, higher level questioning, and much more. Students also go on field trips to different colleges and vocational schools in the state, and volunteer in the community.

It's time for our Coins for Kids Fundraiser, March 20-24, 2023

Send your spare change to school with your student this week. They need to turn it into their Morning Meeting teacher. The PSO has set a goal to raise $1,000 in five days to help support the TTSD Foundation and the incredible work it does. See above for the incentives they have arranged. The Foundation for Tigard Tualatin Schools supports ALL district schools with grants for more teachers, after school programs, and more…so the coins come right back to help us!
