October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month

We’re excited to join schools across the district in raising awareness about online safety for our students, staff, and community. This month, our students are invited to become Cybersecurity Superheroes! They’ll complete four missions: Think Before You Click, Update Your Gear, Protect Your Secret Power Codes, and Tell a Trusted Adult if something online feels unusual. Part of their missions also includes sharing what they are learning with their families so we can all stay safer in today’s digital world.

Parents, you can help your young heroes practice these super skills at home—one mission at a time! - and follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or X at LZdistrict95 as we highlight practical ways families can stay safe online.

Halloween!

Our Halloween parties and parade will be held on Friday, October 31st! We are planning for the Halloween Parade to begin at 1:00pm. For the safety and well-being of every student, please select kid-friendly costumes that do not have masks or weapons. Masks present a safety hazard as they limit visibility; and many students across all grade levels find masks frightening. Weapon replicas will not be allowed. Students should bring their costumes to school in a bag or backpack.

Parents are invited on campus to view the outdoor parade. If it is raining, students will parade inside the building. Parents will not be able to come into the building to view the indoor parade. **For safety reasons, please do not bring your pets (dogs) to school for the parade.**

Please know only PTO room parents and classroom party volunteers may attend classroom parties. All room parents and volunteers must enter and exit the building through the main office and present a driver's license or state ID before receiving a visitor's pass. Please also complete the Parent Volunteer Form and view the Volunteer Safety Video prior to your arrival at school.

To ensure a safe and orderly dismissal on this very busy day, we ask that children take their normal mode of transportation home. Parent volunteers are encouraged to carpool, as parking is limited. Thank you in advance for your support in making this year’s Halloween fun for everyone!

September Student of the Month

Each month, District 95 asks every building to select a student who represents our District Values of collaboration, continuous improvement, equity, high expectations, integrity, perseverance, and respect. For the month of October, Spencer Loomis chose First Grader, Jayme P.

Jayme is an engaged, hardworking student who enters our school each day with a smile on her face! She is a caring and compassionate friend, helping others solve problems with gentle suggestions and always making sure her classmates feel included and valued.

Jayme is an excellent role model for her first grade peers, consistently demonstrating what it means to be safe, responsible, respectful, and incredibly thoughtful. Her love of learning shines through in everything she does—she actively participates in class discussions, takes initiative in her learning, and encourages others to take risks and try their best.

Jayme embodies the qualities of an outstanding student as she remains focused on her goals, puts forth her best effort in all that she does, and leads with kindness and integrity. We are so proud to recognize her as our Student of the Month!

It’s almost time for Red Ribbon Week 2025, happening October 20–24! This is a special week when schools all across the country come together to celebrate making healthy choices and living drug-free.

Here at Spencer Loomis, we’ll be celebrating with:

Coloring Contest – Every student will get a themed coloring sheet to decorate. The posters will be hung in the hallways and on lockers for everyone to enjoy. Our friends at the Hawthorn Woods Police Department will help judge the entries.

  • Two winners will be chosen from grades K–2

  • Two winners will be chosen from grades 3–5

  • Winners will receive a prize!
Don’t forget: Turn in your coloring sheet to your teacher by October 15th.

Spirit Week – Beginning Monday, October 20th, we’ll kick off fun dress-up days and activities to show our school spirit and support for healthy choices.

Let’s all join together to show that Spencer Loomis stands strong for healthy, happy, drug-free kids!
