SpaceX Falcon 9 made history when it successfully launched on Saturday, May, 31, 2020. On board…two veteran astronauts, Doug Hurley and Robert Behnken, and a stuffed dinosaur. The dinosaur serves more than one purpose though. Both of the astronauts on board have sons that are big fans of dinosaurs, so the dinosaur was selected as a connection back home. Not only is the dinosaur cute, and an important reminder of the families at home, it also acts as a signal to the astronauts on board, that they have reached zero gravity.
Since lift off, the dinosaur clip has gone viral, sparking a lot of interest in the dinosaur selection and purpose. For years, NASA has sent a stuffed animal aboard to signal to the crewmembers the zero-g status. The two sons of the crewmembers have enjoyed seeing their selection become such a hit!
