Signs of Illness/Returning to Preschool

If your child has been sick and has green or yellow phlegm or snot it may mean they are fighting off an infection and are CONTAGIOUS. It is possible they need a course of antibiotics to get better. Most of the infections that generate lots of phlegm and snot are viral illnesses and will get better on their own although the virus can still be passed on to others.

Please help us keep our students and teachers healthy by keeping your sick child home until they are no longer contagious.

Thank you.

UPDATE on Covid Procedures

It is very important for our families to stay updated and aware of the COVID guidelines. We have listed a guideline below:

1. If your child is exposed to a COVID-positive person at home: (Exposure means that they have been within 6 feet of a COVID-positive person for longer than 15 minutes) (Also, count from the last person in the household to turn positive.)

  • Your child should be tested for COVID at least three (3) days after the person they’ve been exposed to tested positive. (Day 1 is the day after exposure!)
  • If they are negative, they may attend school unless they develop any symptoms.
  • If they begin symptoms, they need to test again for COVID.

2. If your child tests positive for COVID:
  • If any person tests positive, the day they test positive is day ZERO (0). The day after that is day one (1). Your child should isolate and count out five (5) days. They then should test on the morning of day six (6).
  • If the child tests negative, they may return to school that day, day six (6).
  • If the child tests positive, they may test the next day or every day until it returns a negative reading OR just may return on day eleven (11). When it is negative or on day eleven (11), they may return to school.

3. If your child has been exposed to COVID at school: (Exposure means that they have been in the same classroom as a person that has tested positive)

  • Your family will receive an email notifying them of the exposure date and giving more details on the next steps.
  • Your child may attend school but should test on day three (3) after the person they were exposed to tests positive. (Day 1 is the day after exposure!)
  • If they develop symptoms, they need to test for COVID BUT must ensure that they test at least 3 days after the date of their classmate’s reported exposure.

Grace has been blessed with many COVID tests. If you don’t have enough, let us know. We would be happy to test your child. The tests we have take 30 minutes for results!

CANDY GRAMS!

Don't forget snacks!

Please make sure to send your child with 2 snacks daily if they are with us all day. (one for AM and another for PM). All children also need a water bottle of their own. And label, label, label! They need their names on them too! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Cold & Flu Season Information

Cold and flu season is upon us. Health officials are warning there may be high levels of influenza compared to the past two years when COVID-19 precautions helped keep flu infections low. As a reminder, please do not send your child to school if they are feeling sick or experiencing symptoms of a virus. Keeping your sick child home will be a great benefit for the health and wellness of our students and staff. As you know, we here at Grace have a two-day rule that is helping us keep illnesses down and it is working very well. Your commitment to following this rule stops the spread and keeps more children in school.

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness. Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk of serious flu complications. Symptoms of influenza can vary, but generally include a high fever, headache, chills, body aches, sore throat, and cough.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offers these tips to prevent influenza:
● Get vaccinated every year
● Avoid close contact with sick people
● Frequently wash hands with soap
● Stay at home if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms
● Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
● Individuals with chronic health issues and/or individuals experiencing severe symptoms should be evaluated by a medical professional.

The influenza vaccine is available at doctors’ offices and retail pharmacies and is covered by medical insurance. People with no health care coverage can get vaccinated at one of the County’s six public health centers or a local community clinic. To find the nearest location, visit the County’s Flu Vaccine Locations page or call 2-1-1 San Diego. The CDC recommends that everyone 6 months and older get vaccinated every year.

Grace Christian will continue to work with local health officials to share helpful information.
