They're having so much fun in after-school clubs! They're having so much fun in after-school clubs!

Beacons of the Week!

There are no formal Beacons of the Week on "short weeks", however, so many students exemplified what it means to be a safe, responsible, and respectful human being all week!

Join us for Spotlight Families!

Twice a month, two of our wonderful families will be featured on our morning announcements that are shared each day to build community in our school as well as in our family newsletter. Our hope is that this will create new friendships, bring us closer as a community, and help us celebrate the beautiful diversity that we have here at Bates. It ties in with our motto: "Believe, be you, belong, at Bates!".

Your family can record a Zoom with Ms. Roz, create a poster to share a little about your family, or come into school for a fun interview. Want to learn more? Contact Ms. Roz at rguevera@salemk12.org. Want to sign up? Fill out this form, and Ms. Roz will contact you.

Safe Schools

Safe schools is an extremely important topic that is discussed throughout the year! Our priority is to make sure that the Bates School is a safe place where students feel like they can be themselves, belong and feel safe. Students spend a LOT of time at school! For any learning to occur, it is imperative that students feel like they are safe- throughout their day and throughout the building.

While it is up to adults to make sure that kids are safe physically, we also had discussions this week about feeling safe emotionally as well.

One way we talked about this was using 5th grade student role plays that showed the problem of Intention Vs. Impact. Ask your young person if they remember the two videos where a student caused an accidental impact to another student’s body and feelings.

We practiced recognizing that even if something was not our INTENTION, we are responsible for the IMPACT. See these visuals and talk with your young person about how these skills help them and others to feel emotionally safe at school!

Student Attendance Student Attendance

We're also committed to reducing our chronic absence rate.

Our goal is to keep our chronic absence rate under 19.5% this year. We're also looking for under 11% for the month of October. This week, our chronic attendance rate was down from last week. Shout out to PreK and grade 5 again this week!

If you need any assistance with getting your student to school, please reach out to Rosalyn Guevara, Family Engagement Facilitator at rguevara@salemk12.org.
