Our Learning Community...
Thank you for joining us for our Military Child and Family Appreciation Ceremony. We are so proud of our military-connected students and the strength, resilience and adaptability they demonstrate each day. Their experiences enrich our school community in powerful ways, building empathy, leadership, and a deep sense of service among their peers.
Inspired by their example, our Student Council is organizing a second food drive of the year in support of our Serra Mesa community. We are excited to continue building a culture of service and gratitude. Non-perishable food items can be dropped off in the front office or sent in with your child to their classroom. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
This Thursday is our Spring Showcase of Learning, an incredible evening celebrating student growth and achievement across the year. Students will be sharing their work and families will have the opportunity to see how much they have learned and grown. It is truly a rewarding experience you won’t want to miss! Please check out the flyer below for details, and stay after for the Jones Digital Talent Show Viewing Party, which will be screened in the auditorium!
We also want to remind families that the next two weeks mark the enrollment window for the 2026–2027 PrimeTime program. PrimeTime provides FREE after-school care and all families who apply during this enrollment window are guaranteed a spot in the afternoon program. Even families currently enrolled must reapply. Please see the flyer below for more information.

Congratulations!
Congratulations to our amazing PTA on receiving a $500 reading grant! This exciting award is a wonderful reflection of the PTA’s ongoing dedication to supporting literacy and enriching learning opportunities for our students. Earth Day
Did you know that just 15 minutes of reading each day can make a world of difference in your child’s learning journey? Whether you are reading to your child, reading together, or listening to them read aloud, it all counts and it all matters!
Reading at home builds more than just literacy skills. It strengthens vocabulary, improves comprehension, and develops a lifelong love of learning. In fact, children who are read to daily are exposed to 1.4 million more words by the time they start school than children who are not. That kind of language exposure lays a strong foundation for both academic success and confident communication.
Just as importantly, books also help children grow socially by allowing them to step into other people’s experiences, see the world from different perspectives and practice empathy and kindness. Stories have the power to spark cultural awareness, build understanding and nurture the skills that help our students become not only successful learners, but also compassionate human beings.
Here are a few ways to make reading a special part of your routine:
-
Choose a cozy time and space to read together
-
Let your child pick the book (even if it’s the same one again!)
-
Ask questions about the story to boost comprehension
-
Model a love for reading by enjoying your own book nearby
The best part, your family has access to an endless amount of books through the internet and the Public Library. Looking for something new to read? Check out the links below for inspiration...
