Principal's Message - Mr. Melamed Principal's Message - Mr. Melamed

October 3, 2025

Dear Nederland Community,

Last night, we held our second PTA meeting of the school year, and I want to take a moment to highlight the incredible work our PTA does—especially their fundraising efforts, which are essential to so many of our school programs.

Thanks to PTA support, we are able to:

  • Purchase new books for our school library

  • Fund teacher and student grants

  • Support important community events like Back to School Night, Homecoming, After Prom, Harvest Feast, and many more

October is the PTA’s Direct Give Fundraiser, and their goal is to raise $8,000. They're currently just under 10% of the way there! Every contribution—big or small—makes a real difference, and I encourage every family to give what they can.

Giving is quick and easy:

Testing

  • Seniors - if you did not meet the score requirements on the SAT for graduation, or you did not take the SAT last school year, we are scheduling the ASVAB test here at school. You will be notified if this is something that applies to you. See information here about score requirements.

  • Reminder - if you have not yet paid for your AP exams you need to do so by 10/26/25. If you do not pay by this date, your test will not be ordered. You can pay through RevTrak.

Middle School Parents

  • You should be receiving a weekly email from your student(s) on Fridays that contains their grades that week, an overview of their goals, and how they are working to improve. This is an amazing method of communication that teachers have put in place! If you are not receiving an email from your student, please have a conversation with them at home letting them know you are looking for their emails each week. If you reach out to me, I will happily check in with them to make sure they get this done!

Student Fees Student Fees

Dear Parents & Guardians,

This is a friendly reminder to check your Student’s FEE Balance in Infinite Campus.

Staying on top of academic fees each year can help avoid any big surprises down the road, especially by graduation time.

We encourage families to pay online through Infinite Campus, but you're also welcome to stop by the front office with a check or cash.

Please email Lulu Arauz at lulu.arauzcastex@bvsd.org.

If you're exploring other options, like Free & Reduce (which also covers academic fees and Chromebooks), reach out to Lola Campos at dolores.campos-herzf@bvsd.org or 720-561-5942.

We also have school-specific scholarships and financial aid available. Principal Melamed is happy to help, just send him a quick note at caleb.melamed@bvsd.org.

Fall Fundraiser - Direct Give Campaign

During the month of October the PTA is hosting a direct give campaign to help raise money for our school. We are also looking for local businesses to become Business Sponsors of the PTA. We know that giving money can be a challenge, especially in a small town where there are lots of places that need help but we hope you find that supporting our school and our kids is a worthy cause! Our financial goal is to raise $8,000 but our community goal is to have 100% participation from all our families. Even $5 helps! Please consider supporting the PTA in this way so that we can, in turn, support teachers and staff who are the backbones of this school! By participating in the direct give campaign, you will be entered into a drawing to win TWO FREE ROUND TRIP SOUTHWEST AIRLINE TICKETS! See the flyer below for more details and a QR code or donate here

District Parent Council Rep

Our school is looking for a parent to be our District Council Rep. This is a great way to get involved at the district level to meet with other parents across the district and discuss a wide range of timely and relevant topics. Check out the district's webpage for more info on this.
