2026-27 Hoffman Highlights
October 29th - Family Edition
π A Note From the Principal - Mrs. Amy Huson
It's hard to believe we've already almost made it through October! Between our pumpkin patch, Trunk or Treat, Halloween celebrations, and all the wonderful learning happening in our classrooms, we've certainly made some special memories together!
As we enter November, a month often focused on gratitude, I want to take a moment to share how thankful I am for our Doris Hoffman school family. Our students bring so much joy to our building, our staff pour their hearts into making each day meaningful, and our families continue to show up and support us in so many ways. It truly takes all of us working together to make Doris Hoffman such a special place!
I also want to share that I'll be away from school for a few weeks beginning at the end of next week as I undergo surgery and recover. During my absence, Ms. Cheryl Jackson will be serving as our substitute principal and will be available to support our students, staff, and families. I know our Little Indians will be in wonderful hands! You are also welcome to reach out to me by email if you need anything, and I will do my best to respond as soon as I am able.
I am incredibly grateful for the kindness, encouragement, and support so many of you have shown me. It truly means more than you know! π
As we head into this season of thankfulness, I encourage you to take a moment to appreciate the little thingsβthe hugs, the laughter, the milestones, and the memories being made along the way.
Thank you for being part of our Doris Hoffman family. I'm truly grateful for each of you! ππ€

πͺπ What Are We Learning?
π What Are We Learning? Families & Nature Walks! π³π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦
Next week, we're kicking off ELLC Unit 6 β Week 1: Families & Nature Walks! π Our Little Indians will explore what makes families special while discovering the beauty of nature all around us!
Throughout the week, students will have opportunities to talk about their families, celebrate similarities and differences, and build vocabulary through stories, conversations, and pretend play. We'll also explore the outdoors by observing fall changes, collecting leaves, comparing colors and textures, and using our senses to discover the world around us. ππ
This unit is a wonderful opportunity to encourage curiosity, observation, language development, and an appreciation for the people and world around us!
π‘ Try it at home! Take a family nature walk! Encourage your child to collect leaves, count trees, notice different colors, or talk about the sounds they hear. You can also look at family photos together and share stories about the special people in your child's life.
From celebrating our families to exploring nature, every little adventure is another Little Step toward a Big Success! π£ππ€

π Parents as Teachers Spotlight: Raising Thankful Little Hearts! ππ£
November is a wonderful time to help our little ones learn about gratitude and kindness! π Even young children can begin to understand what it means to be thankful, show appreciation, and care for others.
Try making gratitude part of your family's daily routine! At dinner or bedtime, ask your child, "What made you happy today?" or "Who did something kind for you?" Encourage simple acts of kindness like helping a sibling, sharing a toy, or saying thank you. These little moments help build empathy, positive relationships, and social-emotional skills.
Our FREE Parents as Teachers (PAT) program supports district families from the prenatal period through kindergarten entry with activities, resources, and guidance to help children grow and thrive!
Little hearts can show BIG gratitude! ππ£
