Happy Friday!

Greetings Falcon Family!

We have enjoyed an eventful week in the Falcon’s Nest! On Monday we kicked off Red Ribbon Week with a special presentation from our community partners at Circle Park Prevention Services. Our eight grade students participated in the PSAT Administration on Tuesday.

The Falcons defeated the Sneed Squires 52-0 to clinch the Middle School Football City Championshp on Wednesday advancing to 6-0. During halftime, we were recognized as a “Mental Health Matters School” from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) South Carolina. Our band, chorus, orchestra, and piano students presented a dynamic Mysterious Melodies Concert on Thursday in the library.

We continue to be on the move with Paper as we provide meaningful resources for our students to build their success tool kit! Thank you to all parents and guardians who attended Parent Conference Day last Thursday. Please continue to communicate with your child’s teacher regarding his or her academic progress.

Remember our World’s Finest Chocolate Fundraiser ends on Tuesday, November 2nd!

Have a restful weekend, Falcons!

The survey is confidential and your responses will be used to ensure that our instructional program at Southside Middle School continues to be challenging and research-based.

Please complete the survey by Sunday, October 31, 2021. We appreciate your support and feedback!

Our New School-Based Therapist (SBT)

Please join me in welcoming Mrs. DeAnn Lesane to the Falcon’s Nest as our new School-Based Therapist (SBT). Mrs. Lesane previously served as the SBT at Theodore Lester Elementary School.

More about Mrs. Lesane…

When circumstances erupt in a child's life, whether it's trauma from abuse or neglect or struggles from a DSM-5 diagnosis, it is not uncommon for their lives to fall apart. My goal as a School-Based Therapist is to provide emotional support through effective counseling to help children who are struggling with negative behaviors. My counseling techniques consist of Cognitive Behavior Therapy, if you can change their way of thinking, you can change their behavior.

My educational background includes a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Mental Health Counseling from Webster University in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Sociology from Coker University in Hartsville, South Carolina. I have also obtained a certification as an Adoption Specialist from South Carolina Department of Social Services.

I take great pride in what I do and I truly have a passion for our children. Our children are our FUTURE!

Fundraiser Ends November 2nd!

4 MORE DAYS TO SELL IN OUR FUNDRAISER.

TURN IN MONEY AND ORDER FORM ON TUESDAY, NOV 2ND.

Make sure your student name is on the order form. Take a picture of order form for your reference. The original order form will be returned to you with your order.

We will not accept late orders since we have Holiday items on the brochure.

It was brought to our attention that on the back side the World's Finest Chocolate order form, where you write in your order, the last 4 items on the order form are out of order by LETTER. So if you are ordering mint meltaways, caramel whirls, dark deluxe, and chocolate santa, just disregard letters F,G,H, I and put the quantity you want to order under the NAME OF THE PRODUCT on the ordering grid. (Most of you would do that anyway, but just in case you notice the last 4 letters don't match the inside of the flyer).

HOW DOES IT WORK:

1. Take orders on the back of the Holiday Continental Collection flyer. Collect money as you take orders.

2. Turn in money and the order form (on back side of flyer) on Tuesday, November 2nd.

3. Take a picture of your order form for a copy.

4. The original order form will be returned to you with your chocolate order.

5. You will be notified of the delivery/ pick up day so you can pick up your chocolate.

6. Chocolate will be delivered about 2 weeks after sale ends.

6. Chocolate will not be sent home on the bus.

Students in Ms. Holcomb’s sixth grade science class are on the move through station rotations. Ms. Holcomb has begun implementing station learning in her classroom which allows her to work with students in a smaller group setting. This is provides an opportunity for Ms. Holcomb to differentiate her instruction to meet her students where they are. Way to go, Ms. Holcomb!
