Northwest High School’s 14th Annual Community Talent Show Shines Bright, Raising $400 for Local Cancer Patients
This year, one of the most meaningful service activities for the Susan K. Loring Chapter of the National Honor Society was hosting the 14th Annual Northwest Community Talent Show. Held on February 4th in the Northwest High School Cafetorium, the event brought together students, staff, families, and community members for an evening that blended entertainment with purpose—raising funds to support cancer patients at Henry Ford Hospital.
Through admission donations and a successful bake sale, the Talent Show raised $400. This contribution brings the total funds raised since the event’s inception in 2012—when it was founded by alumna Shannon Watts—to an inspiring $9,058.67. All proceeds continue to support local cancer patients by providing gift cards for Jackson-area individuals in need.
The show featured a wide range of performances, including vocal and instrumental music, dance routines, magic acts, and spoken word pieces. Each act reflected the creativity, courage, and generosity of the Northwest community and demonstrated the spirit of leadership and service that NHS strives to uphold.
In addition to the Talent Show, this year’s National Honor Society activities included hosting three blood drives, offering tutoring services, and participating in numerous individual service projects—totaling more than 2,880 hours of service by NHS members.
Looking back on this year’s activities, the Talent Show stands out as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when students use their talents in service to others. The National Honor Society extends its sincere appreciation to every performer, volunteer, attendee, and donor who helped make this year’s show a success. Your support continues to make a real difference for families facing cancer and showcases the impact of student-led service in our community.
