Hello families,

We had another great week of teaching and learning! We kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month by highlighting the rich cultures of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Shoutout to our student ambassadors for a fantastic job on the morning announcements!

Our country highlights continue this week as we showcase Venezuela, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Brazil, and Panama.

We can’t wait to see our students shine this week!

We are highlighting a different country each day during Hispanic Heritage Month! Students and staff are encouraged to wear native dress, a shirt featuring their country’s national team, crest, or flag colors, and/or bring an item to share with their class that represents their country or family’s origin.

Volunteering at Tubman

This year, caregivers who have completed the MCPS volunteer training, will have the opportunity to volunteer in classrooms. This is in addition to field trip chaperones. We are asking for caregivers to sign up for one volunteer opportunity in your child's class to give all families the chance to volunteer.

Attendance is important! On time every day! Attendance is important! On time every day!

Being at school every day gives students opportunities to learn, build friendships, connect with trusted adults and get involved in activities they enjoy. Most importantly, being present helps them feel like they belong — and gives them opportunities to reach their potential. Parents and families, please ensure your student is in school every day, ready to learn.

Adult volunteers are needed! Our markets depend on the support of volunteers to help set up, distribute food, and keep things running smoothly. If you’re able to lend a hand at one or more markets, we would greatly appreciate your support!

Supporting Math Learning at Home: Visit the Caregiver Hub

As students continue learning with Amplify Desmos Math, families have resources available to help stay connected to what students are learning and support that learning at home.

The Amplify Desmos Math Caregiver Hub provides families with information about the curriculum, what students are learning and simple ways to encourage mathematical thinking outside the classroom. Even asking questions such as, “What did you learn in math today?” “How did you figure that out?” or “How do you know your answer makes sense?” can help students explain their thinking and build confidence.
Remember to visit the Caregiver Hub throughout the year for resources and ideas to support your student’s growth as a confident and capable math learner.
