Tubman Tiger Times

Sunday, September 27
Hello families,
We had another great week of teaching and learning! We kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month by highlighting the rich cultures of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Shoutout to our student ambassadors for a fantastic job on the morning announcements!
Our country highlights continue this week as we showcase Venezuela, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Brazil, and Panama.
We can’t wait to see our students shine this week!

Volunteering at Tubman
This year, caregivers who have completed the MCPS volunteer training, will have the opportunity to volunteer in classrooms. This is in addition to field trip chaperones. We are asking for caregivers to sign up for one volunteer opportunity in your child's class to give all families the chance to volunteer.
Tubman Travelers
Our Tubman Travelers celebration is getting closer, and we are excited to see our community coming together!
Once your family has completed your cultural paper doll, please send it in with your child so we can begin putting our display together. If your family participated last year and still has your doll, you are welcome to reuse it and send it back in.
🍽️ Interested in bringing a cultural dish?
🎨 Interested in creating a cultural display board?
We would love to have your family participate! Please let your child's classroom teacher know or scan the QR code on the Tubman Travelers form to indicate how you would like to participate.
Every doll, dish, display, and family contribution helps us celebrate the wonderful cultures and traditions represented throughout our Tubman community. ❤️🌎
Thank you for helping us make Tubman Travelers a special celebration for everyone!
Attendance is important! On time every day!
When your child is going to be absent, please call our school or send a message via Parent Square or email to your child's teacher. Students who are absent for three consecutive days need a note from their doctor to excuse absences.
Tubman Family Market
A Safe Walk to School Starts With a Few Simple Habits
Our Tubman Family Markets are returning! Our first market will be held on Wednesday, October 14, from 5:30–6:30 PM in the school cafeteria, with markets continuing on the second Wednesday of each month throughout the school year.
Family Markets are for Tubman families only and offer families an opportunity to receive fresh produce and shelf stable food at no cost. No registration is required—just stop by and remember to bring your own bags!
Adult volunteers are needed! Our markets depend on the support of volunteers to help set up, distribute food, and keep things running smoothly. If you’re able to lend a hand at one or more markets, we would greatly appreciate your support!

Supporting Math Learning at Home: Visit the Caregiver Hub
As students continue learning with Amplify Desmos Math, families have resources available to help stay connected to what students are learning and support that learning at home.
The Amplify Desmos Math Caregiver Hub provides families with information about the curriculum, what students are learning and simple ways to encourage mathematical thinking outside the classroom. Even asking questions such as, “What did you learn in math today?” “How did you figure that out?” or “How do you know your answer makes sense?” can help students explain their thinking and build confidence.
Remember to visit the Caregiver Hub throughout the year for resources and ideas to support your student’s growth as a confident and capable math learner.
