Walnut Creek Weekly Update - 5/22/26

Walnut Creek Learning Community,

We've had a great week here at Walnut Creek. We have been working hard to reinforce our very high expectations for all students, and to guide our students to a successful end of the school year.

As we head into the weekend, I want to take a moment to share some of the conversations I have been having with your students this week.

On Monday, I spoke directly with our students about a recent uptick in classroom disruptions and hallway incidents. I am always comfortable admitting to our kids that we as adults do not have all the answers and that we all make mistakes. However, I challenged them to recognize that when poor choices are repeated over and over, they become habits rather than just bad moments.

Over the following days, we focused heavily on protecting the amazing atmosphere we have built together since the fall. By Thursday, I was thrilled to recognize so many of our students showing the maturity to hear tough feedback, process it, and truly lean back into our Hawk PRIDE habits of Positive attitude, Responsibility, Integrity, Determination, and Empathy.

To help us keep this positive momentum going through the end of the year, I would love for you to partner with us at home. You can support this message by having an open dialogue with your child about how their daily choices at school align with your own family values.

It is also incredibly helpful to encourage them to practice that silent conversation inside their own heads before they react to a frustrating situation to help check their internal monologue. Remind them that taking ownership of their actions and showing empathy to their peers not only elevates everyone around them but also ensures they get to fully enjoy all the rewarding activities we have planned to celebrate the end of the year.

We believe in these kids, and we know they can finish this year strong. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

8th Grade Year-End Activities - Updated/NEW INFO

Thank you to the families that donated unneeded ceremony tickets back to the school for redistribution. At this time, all families have been contacted if we were/were not able to accommodate your requests. We do not have any additional tickets to distribute at this time.

As a reminder the 8th grade ceremony is a STRICTLY ticketed event. Anyone that arrives without a ticket will not be permitted to enter the ceremony. We will have officers from both Oakland County and West Bloomfield on scene to help us manage the entry process. Respectfully, we ask that no parent put us or themselves into the situation of being turned away at the door of our 8th grade ceremony by showing up without a ticket and/or bringing extra family members without a ticket. We will live stream the event for family members that are not able to attend.

Tickets will be distributed to students at the REQUIRED ceremony rehearsal on June 8th.

Monday, June 8th - 1:00 - 3:00 PM:

8th Grade Ceremony Rehearsal

  • Required for all students planning to attend the 8th grade Ceremony

Tuesday, June 9th - 9:30 - 10:45 AM:

8th Grade Ceremony:

  • Each student will receive THREE tickets during the Rehearsal on June 8th. Due to the capacity of our gym, the 8th Grade Ceremony is a strictly ticketed event.
  • Our bleachers have an approximate capacity of 925 - with 311 8th grade students, we can only accommodate three family members per student. Any family member that arrives without a ticket will not be permitted to enter the gym. PLEASE do not put us or yourself into the situation of having to be turned away at the door!
  • The ceremony will be live streamed for any family member that would like to watch the event from home.
  • Traditionally, students leave with their parents after the event. Students are permitted to stay for the day if they choose, but we've never had more than a couple of students remain at Creek after the ceremony.

Wednesday, June 10th - 11:40 AM:

  • 8th Grade Clap out:

    • More information will be shared as we approach the last day of school. Parents will be invited to meet their students in the East Courtyard (Gym side) as they are clapped out of the school by our 6th and 7th grade students.

Below is the email that was sent on 5/21/26:

As we approach the end of the school year, we are excited to celebrate our 8th graders and all of their accomplishments! We have two wonderful events planned to send them off to high school, but we need your help to make them a success.

Please mark your calendars for:

  • 8th Grade Celebration: Monday, June 8th
  • 8th Grade Breakfast: Tuesday, June 9th

We are looking for volunteers to help on both days, as well as food items and monetary donations to cover event costs.
