Good afternoon parents and caregivers,

BUILDING OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH RESPECT & PARTNERSHIP

One of the greatest strengths of any school is the sense of community that surrounds it. Our school is more than just classrooms and playgrounds—it is a place where students, families, and staff work together to create a safe, supportive, and positive environment for everyone.

At the heart of a strong community is respect. Respect for one another’s ideas, backgrounds, and perspectives helps create a culture where people feel valued and heard. When we model respectful behaviour for our children, we also teach them how to build healthy relationships, resolve differences, and contribute positively to the world around them.

Schools work best when there is a genuine partnership between families and staff. When we communicate openly, support one another, and focus on what is best for our students, we create the conditions for young people to thrive both academically and socially.

Our shared goal is always the wellbeing and success of our students. Achieving this requires patience, understanding, and a commitment to working together—even when challenges arise. By approaching conversations with kindness, assuming positive intent, and supporting one another, we continue to strengthen the culture of our school.

Thank you to our families and community members who contribute so positively to our school each day. Together, through respect and collaboration, we can continue to build a community where every child feels supported, safe, valued, and proud to belong.

NAPLAN ASSESSMENTS - YEARS 3 & 5

This week our Year 3 and Year 5 students commenced their NAPLAN assessments, which will continue into next week.

At our school, we intentionally keep NAPLAN as low-key as possible. Our aim is to ensure that students approach the assessments feeling calm and confident, without unnecessary stress or pressure. NAPLAN is simply a one-off, point-in-time snapshot of student learning and is only one of the many ways we gather information about student progress.

Teachers work closely with students throughout the year and use a wide range of classroom assessments, observations and learning tasks to build a much more complete picture of each child’s development.

We were also fortunate that our school was not affected by the nationwide IT issues that disrupted testing for many schools this week, allowing our students to complete their scheduled assessments without interruption.

I would like to thank Ms Maybury and Mrs Todaro for preparing the students and more importantly, keeping the students calm and relaxed for their assessments.

Thank you for your continued support in helping students approach these assessments with a positive and relaxed mindset.

CODE OF CONDUCT

A gentle reminder to parents who have not yet responded and returned their Code of Conduct forms to administration, to please have these forms in by Friday 27 March.

These forms were given out by classroom teachers at the parent information evening and sent home to parents who did not attend.

Kindy parents will have these forms sent home next week. The Code of Conduct can be found on our school website under Our School, Policies, Procedures and Compliance.

CROSS WALK ATTENDANT

To date we have only had one expression of interest to volunteer for our crosswalk attendant position. We are greatly appreciative to this person. However, it would be fantastic if we could have one or two more community members who could hopefully help out.

A reminder that training for this will be included for individuals.

If you are interested, please inform the front office by Wednesday 17 March.

God bless

Sandro Coniglio

Dear Parents and Guardians

Thank you to all of our families for the wonderful turnout at the P&F Movie Night. It was a fantastic way to start the year and so lovely to see so many families come together for a relaxing evening under the stars. A very big thank you to our P&F for organising such a wonderful community event. Your time and effort in bringing our school community together is truly appreciated. Thank you again to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a great success.

Next Monday we will be holding our Water Walk, which also falls on Harmony Day. On this day, students are invited to wear cultural dress or clothing that represents their background. If you don’t have cultural attire, students are welcome to wear orange to celebrate Harmony Day.

At 9:00 am, all classes will meet on the oval for the Water Walk. Each class will line up behind two buckets, and students will take turns carrying a bucket of water and returning to their classmates without spilling it. This activity helps us remember Sisilia and many others in Tanzania who walk long distances each day to collect water, often missing out on school. Our goal is to raise enough money to help purchase water tanks for schools in Tanzania. Please consider asking friends and family to support your child by donating to the Water Walk.

Our Easter Raffle is also coming up. We kindly ask each family to donate Easter eggs or chocolate goodies for the raffle and for our Foodbank donations. Foodbank will distribute the Easter eggs to children who may not otherwise receive them. Donations can begin to be brought to school from Monday, 16 March.

In gratitude

MEMORY CAFE RESUMES IN 2026! MEMORY CAFE RESUMES IN 2026!

Our partnership with our friends from the Swan Valley Memory Cafe continues, with our Year 1s and Year 6s joining together to spend special time together.

Year One Blue, Year One Green and Year Six recently hosted our Memory Café and enjoyed a lovely morning spent with visitors from our community. The children spent time creating a craft alongside our guests and chatting together. They also asked a thoughtful question: “What advice would you give your six-year-old self?” Which led to some wonderful conversations and a few funny stories being shared along the way. It was a really special opportunity for the children to connect with others, listen to different experiences and simply enjoy spending time together.

A big thank you to our Year 6 families for providing a plate of food for the morning tea and to Mrs Armstrong for volunteering her time to help prepare the beautiful morning tea, help serve it and clean up. Mrs Armstrong truly is an Emmaus gem, and we are so grateful for the care and generosity she continues to bring to our community.

Thank you to all students who participated so enthusiastically to create an inviting and pleasant session with our Memory Cafe friends.

PLAY BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL PLAY BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL

All our students were reminded at today's assembly about a significant number of students playing on equipment before and after school. We ask parents to also be vigilant in ensuring that their child is not using or climbing on any play items before school starts or after the home time bell (even if parents are supervising).

This year, we are seeking parent volunteers to assist with supervising small groups of students in Emmaus’ Apron Amigos Cooking Program.

This program forms part of our Wellbeing Initiative and supports the development of positive social and emotional skills in a fun and engaging environment.

We are hoping to have enough volunteers to create a roster, so the commitment is shared and does not place too much demand on any one person.

Program details:

  • Cooking sessions will be held on Wednesday afternoons from 2:00 – 2:55 pm commencing either Week 7 or Week 8 of Term 1, and continuing throughout the rest of the year.
  • Nominated students from PP to Year 3 will participate on a rotational basis (this may not include your child; until 'friends (amigos)' are invited to cook alongside participants.)
  • Volunteers do not need to have a child in the program to assist.
  • Recipes are easy and usually 'no cook' dishes.
  • We kindly ask that younger siblings are not brought along, so that volunteers can focus on supervising the students during the cooking sessions.

If you would be interested in helping with this very rewarding activity, please email Debbie McKrill (Apron Amigos Chief Cook) at debbie.mckrill@cewa.edu.au

In your reply email, please indicate how many Wednesdays per term you would be willing to volunteer.

Thank you so much for your consideration of this request.

Debbie McKrill

  • Do you have a child who is due to enter Pre-Kindergarten (3K) or Kindergarten (4K) in 2027?

  • Have you lodged an Application for Admission form yet?

Interviews for 2027 places will be held during May and June so applications should be submitted before the end of April.

We have received a large number of applications already for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten for next year so late applications may potentially mean missing out on a place.

SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD'S WELLBEING AT SCHOOL & HOME

This term, our school wellbeing focus is Emotional Regulation. In our last newsletter, we introduced what emotional regulation is and why it is such an important skill for children to develop. Learning how to recognise, understand and manage big emotions helps children build resilience, maintain positive relationships, and navigate challenges both at school and in everyday life.

Children often experience strong emotions as they grow and learn about the world around them. Part of developing emotional regulation is learning the skills and strategies that help them calm their bodies, think clearly, and respond in positive ways when those big feelings arise.

Supporting children through big emotions can be tricky. At school, we support students’ emotional growth through a variety of programs and strategies. In the early years, we teach the Kimochis program to help children identify and express their feelings in healthy ways. In the middle to upper years, students engage with URStrong Friendology, which assists with emotional regulation within relationships. Across all year levels, we also explicitly teach and model regulation strategies during our Wellbeing Dedicated Time, drawing on a range of techniques from the Berry Street Education Model to help students manage their emotions effectively. The article below provides helpful insights and practical strategies for parents to support children as they learn to regulate their feelings and develop lifelong emotional skills.
