Kindergarten

In Kindergarten, we have started the school year by focusing on building relationships with our students and establishing “Our Class Family.” Students are busy learning our day to day routine and schedule. We also have been busy completing assessments required by both the district (MAP testing, Acadience) and the State (K.R.A. - Kindergarten Readiness Assessment).

First Grade

In 1st grade, we have been working on routines and procedures in our classrooms to set us up for success this school year. We have been answering the essential question of “How can learning new things and making new friends help us?” by learning how to play and communicate with other students. We are learning what nouns are and how to identify them in the world around us. In math, we are reviewing months of the year, days of the week, counting to 120, and skip counting.

Second Grade

In 2nd grade, we have been learning about the different communities we belong to and the roles and responsibilities we have in each one. We are also exploring science and engineering, focusing on how scientists and engineers use the Design Thinking Process to solve problems.

Third Grade

In 3rd grade, students are learning about Reynoldsburg History. We have a field trip at the end of the month with the Reynoldsburg Historical Society to learn more about how Reynoldsburg has changed throughout time.

Fourth Grade

In 4th grade, we have spent the last few weeks fostering positive relationships with our students and leading conversations to help them build relationships among themselves. Each teacher has introduced student responsibilities regarding classroom expectations and procedures. Students used the design cycle for the first time this year to create seating arrangements and develop collaborative projects.

Fifth Grade

In 5th grade, we’ve had an exciting start to the year! Our classes have been busy building strong routines and expectations while also creating a positive classroom community. Students have been actively involved in setting norms, which has helped us launch into our first academic lessons with enthusiasm. Last week, we began our fall MAP testing, and we are continuing this week so that we can better understand each student’s strengths and needs. We are looking forward to a great year of growth and learning together!

From Our Intervention Specialists

In the Special Education Department here at HMSE, we are wrapping up beginning-of-year testing and progress monitoring to see how our students are doing after the summer break.

As we move forward, our intervention team will begin working more closely with students by joining classroom instruction and leading small group work to support their learning.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s intervention specialist through email or TalkingPoints.

From Our Title Intervention Teachers

By the end of this month, all students will receive a letter about their reading progress based on their recent MAP Reading assessment. This letter will let you know if your child is currently “on track” or “off track” in reading.

If your child needs extra support, we’ll provide additional reading help at school. You can expect to hear more about your student's reading progress from their classroom teacher or one of our Title Intervention teachers — Ms. Allan, Mrs. Brower, or Ms. Khi.
