Dear Families of Colin Powell Middle School,

It is with immense honor and great excitement that I welcome you for the 2025-2026 school year! As the building comes alive again with your energy and passion, we are reminded that you are the heart and soul of this institution.

For those I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting, my name is Marsandra Brown, and I am incredibly proud to be joining this remarkable community as your new principal. I am here because I believe in the profound impact of dedicated educators, parent and community engagement, and the limitless potential of our students. I have already heard so much about the talent and commitment of our parents, and I am eager to see it firsthand.

My core mission is to foster a culture of support, collaboration, and excellence. I am committed to listening, learning, and leading alongside you. My door will always be open as we work together to build upon this school's strong foundation and create an environment where every student feels seen, challenged, and empowered to succeed.

This year is a fresh start—a new chapter for all of us. Let's fill it with innovation, growth, and a shared dedication to making a true difference. I cannot wait to begin this important work with each and every one of you.

Here's to a phenomenal year ahead!

Student IDs: A Partnership in Safety & Responsibility

To ensure a safe and efficient learning environment, we are emphasizing our student ID card policy for the new school year. All students will receive their 2025-2026 school ID on Monday, the first day of school.

Student IDs are an essential tool for daily life at our school and serve two main purposes:

  1. Campus Safety: IDs must be worn and visible at all times. This allows our staff to easily identify every student as a member of our school community, which is a vital aspect of maintaining a secure campus.

  2. Lunch Services: Students will use their IDs to scan for meals in the cafeteria, helping our lunch lines move smoothly and quickly.

Our Home-School Partnership

We will be teaching students about the importance of being responsible for their ID cards. Your support at home is crucial to their success. We kindly ask that you make it part of your family’s morning routine to ensure your scholar has their ID before they leave for school each day.

Thank you for your partnership in upholding this important policy. Together, we can help our students build positive habits while keeping our school safe for everyone.

Student Handbook

Good evening, families!

As we look forward to welcoming your students back to school tomorrow morning, we want to share a key resource to ensure a smooth and successful start for everyone.

Attached below is the 2025-2026 Parent-Student Handbook. This guide is designed to foster a strong partnership between home and school by clearly outlining our shared expectations. In it, you will find everything you need to know about our policies, including the student dress code, attendance, our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) expectations, and much more.

We kindly ask that you and your scholar review this document together in the coming days. A paper copy will be sent home this week; please sign the acknowledgment form on the last page and have your student return it to their homeroom teacher.

To start the year with positive momentum, we are awarding extra PBIS points to every student who returns their signed form by this Friday, August 29th!

Thank you for your support in establishing a positive and productive environment from day one. We are thrilled to begin this new school year with you.
