A Note from the Principal

Greetings Sanborn!

This week flew by - it's hard to believe we are in our final week of October and quarter one. Students have been hard at work this past week as they work to finish the first quarter on a positive note; this is a great time to check Alma and ensure that plans are in place for any makeup work or reassessment that needs to happen before Friday.

This past week our sixth grade students had a chance to step outside the classroom and enjoy the sunshine while learning more about the history of NH at Strawberry Banke. It was a great day for all and we are proud of the way that the students behaved and engaged to represent Sanborn Regional Middle School.

Our Senior Night celebrations wrapped up for fall sports this past week; an important milestone for our senior students and their families - a bittersweet moment that reminds us how quickly time passes by as our students grow throughout the school year.

The week that lies ahead brings us the recognition of Red Ribbon Week - please check out the flyer included in this newsletter for more information about activities!

Let's make it a great week, Sanborn!

Sanborn Bass Fishing Tournament

The 2026 Sanborn Bass Fishing season ended earlier this month with the State qualifying tournament held on Lake Winnipesaukee. Bass Fishing team members Ethan Dube (Captain), Sam LaValley, Mikey Owen, and Lexus Petrain competed in 2 NHIAA fishing tournaments. Although the team did not qualify for the State championships, they represented Sanborn well and Coach Enright is proud of the team!

Seacoast Science Center Field Trip

On Monday, Ms. Berenson's Marine Biology class traveled to the Seacoast Science Center at Odiorne Point in Rye, NH to conduct Citizen's Science! Students searched the tide pools for INVASIVE European Green Crabs - data was collected on size, ability to reproduce, and location found - this data will be reported to the state to analyze the threat level of this invasive species!

6th Grade Art Project

At the beginning of the year, 6th graders created hands to put into a group art installation. They started by tracing and cutting out their hands, then wrote an inspirational quote on their hands and decorated them. The message students were given for this project was "you can be somebody." This week in Arts and Crafts Club, students put together the art installation for the current 6th graders and hung it up in the 6th grade hallway. The hands were arranged in the shape of a "33" for the year the 6th graders will graduate from high school.

8th Grade History Project

Mr. Beebe's 8th grade History In Handiwork class has spent the last month or so focused on learning about historical fencing methods and trying their hands at them. They've now successfully completed their first wattle fence along the wooded hillside behind the building's pollinator garden. The kids learned a lot through trial and error and can now apply what they've learned to their next project: medieval hedgelaying!

Science National Honor Society Trunk or Treat Event

Just in time for the spooky season, the Science National Honor Society members geared up in their best "witchy mad scientist" costumes to participate in Kingston's Trunk or Treat event! In addition to representing the Science National Honor Society and raising donations for the club, the SNHS members also performed really fun volcano experiments, bubbling experiments, and lava lamp experiments for passerby trick-or-treaters while also handing out candy to the children. Overall, Trunk or Treat was a horror-fically fun time while also still being an educational experience for both the SNHS members and trick-or-treaters alike!

Healthcare Exploration Field Trip

Sanborn students had the opportunity to participate in a hands-on healthcare experience at Portsmouth Regional Hospital! During their visit, students explored a variety of healthcare career pathways, including nursing, nutrition, physical therapy, emergency medical services (EMT), surgery, and more. Students listened to presentations from healthcare professionals, asked questions, and had the chance to try out some of the equipment used in the field. One of the most memorable highlights of the day was getting to hold a real pig’s heart! This engaging experience gave students a firsthand look at the many exciting opportunities available in the healthcare industry.

Lunch and Learn--Healthcare

Sanborn alumna and UNH senior Hannah Mullen, along with two of her classmates, took time to speak with our students about careers and opportunities in the medical field. Students had the chance to ask questions, explore various healthcare career pathways, and learn about their educational experiences. The presenters also shared helpful tips and advice to guide students as they consider their future career paths.

This event was generously sponsored by the Sanborn Seminary.
