HTHS Varsity Baseball delivered a commanding performance on Friday, sweeping Altamont in a doubleheader at Comer Sports Complex with decisive wins of 13-2 and 12-1.
In Game 1, the Huskies exploded out of the gate with a seven-run first inning and never looked back. Riggan led the offensive charge with a perfect day at the plate, collecting three hits and driving in key runs to pace the 13-2 victory.
HTHS set the tone early as Duckett, Alfano, Walker, Bales, and Riggan all contributed RBIs in the opening inning. The Huskies continued to apply pressure, adding runs in each of the next two innings to build a commanding lead.
Walker and Alfano anchored the middle of the lineup with three RBIs each, while Duckett added two hits. On the bases, HTHS was relentless—Mitchell, Riggan, and Duckett each swiped multiple bags as the team totaled 11 stolen bases.
Clark earned the win on the mound, allowing just two runs on three hits over five innings while striking out four. Defensively, the Huskies were flawless, not committing a single error.
Game 2 followed a similar script, as HTHS Varsity Baseball once again overwhelmed Altamont in a 12-1 win, powered by a huge performance from Futrell.
After Altamont briefly tied the game in the first, the Huskies responded immediately and took control for good in the second inning. Futrell was the difference-maker, driving in five runs on two hits, including a bases-clearing double in the fourth.
HTHS continued to showcase patience at the plate, drawing eight walks and consistently putting pressure on Altamont’s pitching staff. Duckett, Walker, Futrell, and McIntosh each recorded two hits in a balanced offensive effort.
Kizer earned the win, going five innings and allowing just one run while scattering three hits. The Huskies’ pitching staff once again kept Altamont in check while the offense piled on runs.

HTMS Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader Behind Clutch Hitting and Strong Pitching
HTMS Baseball put together a complete team performance on Monday, sweeping a doubleheader against Oxford Yellow Jackets Middle School with wins of 8-4 and 4-3.
In Game 1, HTMS Baseball leaned on a huge performance from Gregory to set the tone. He drove in four runs on three hits, including a bases-clearing triple in the third inning that broke a 1-1 tie and gave HTMS the lead for good. Morrison followed with an RBI single to extend the advantage, helping HTMS build a comfortable cushion.
Gregory also earned the win on the mound, pitching five strong innings with six strikeouts. Offensively, HTMS Baseball racked up 12 hits, with Hendrick, Harper, Morrison, and Jackson each collecting multiple hits. The team was aggressive on the base paths as well, totaling six stolen bases in the victory.
Oxford kept things competitive with contributions from Whitmore, Mims, and Landreth, but HTMS Baseball maintained control throughout to secure the 8-4 win.
Game 2 proved to be a much tighter contest, with both teams battling for every run. HTMS Baseball struck first in the third inning when Hendrick drove in a run with a single. Oxford responded in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead, but HTMS answered again in the fifth.
With the bases loaded, Wood was hit by a pitch to force in a key run, part of a go-ahead inning that gave HTMS a 4-2 advantage. That proved to be just enough offense to hold on.
Fogg earned the win in relief, allowing no earned runs while striking out five. Lambert came in to close the game and secure the save. Hendrick led the offense in Game 2, while Wood, Swoager, Mezrano, Mattioli, and Fogg each added hits in a balanced effort.
Oxford threatened late, cutting the lead to one, but HTMS Baseball’s defense held strong to preserve the 4-3 victory.
With the doubleheader sweep, HTMS Baseball showcased both explosive offense and late-game resilience. The team will head to Oak Mountain for the Metro Tournament Saturday.
HTHS JV Baseball Wins Series Over Homewood, 2-1
HTHS JV Baseball secured an impressive series win over Homewood, taking two of three games in a competitive set highlighted by dominant pitching and a breakout offensive performance.
In Game 1 on April 2, HTHS JV set the tone with a 3-1 victory in a pitcher’s duel. Prescott delivered a standout performance on the mound, recording 16 outs while allowing just one hit and no runs over five and one-third innings. He struck out seven and kept Homewood’s lineup off balance all game long.
The Huskies broke through in the third inning when Boshers drew a walk and Renda followed with a clutch double down the left field line, each driving in a run. HTHS finished with nine hits, with Boshers and Kizer leading the way with two hits apiece. Hodge came on to secure the save and seal the win.
Homewood answered back in Game 2 on April 4, evening the series with a 6-0 win. Capitalizing on a defensive miscue and timely hitting in the third inning, Homewood grabbed early momentum and never looked back. Despite a strong outing from Mosley, who struck out seven over five innings, HTHS struggled to generate offense, managing just one hit from Smith.
With the series on the line later that day, HTHS JV responded in a big way in Game 3, earning a decisive 10-2 victory to clinch the series.
After a back-and-forth start, the Huskies broke the game open in the fourth inning with a seven-run explosion. HTHS showed patience and discipline at the plate, drawing multiple walks and capitalizing on every opportunity. Key contributions came from across the lineup, including RBIs from Bamberg, Shirley, Smith, Willoughby, Mosley, DeArman, and Giangrosso.
Allen earned the win on the mound, going five and two-thirds innings while allowing just two runs (one earned). Gibson set the tone offensively from the leadoff spot with two hits, while the team as a whole worked seven walks to keep pressure on Homewood throughout the game.
With the 10-2 win, HTHS JV Baseball claimed the series 2-1, showcasing resilience after the Game 2 setback and finishing strong in front of their home crowd.
HTHS JV will look to carry that momentum into their next matchup as they travel to Gardendale on Friday.
