Principal's Message
Dear Hiteon Community,
It was wonderful to see so many of you at Hiteonβs Curriculum Night! Krystin and I enjoyed meeting the adults who are such an important part of our studentsβ lives. Additionally, we also enjoyed having the opportunity to answer your questions during the Q&A session. Please know that if there is something we can do to support your child, we want to hear from you. Do not hesitate to reach out to your childβs teacher, Krystin, or me. Our shared goal is to provide every Hiteon student with the best possible experience at school.
In a little over a month, we will invite you back to Hiteon for Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 14 and 15. We are asking for 100% participation from our families. Conferences can be held in person or virtually to accommodate families whose schedules make it difficult to come into the building. These conversations are an important opportunity for you to learn more about your childβs academic and social-emotional growth, but they are also a chance for us to learn more about your child from you. You know your child in ways that we do not, and the information you share can help us better understand and support them at school.
The staff and I are looking forward to a wonderful 2026β2027 school year and are grateful to be part of such a strong Hiteon community!
Janet Maza (Principal) and Krystin Murphy (Assistant Principal)

Lost & Found
Have sweatshirts and jackets mysteriously gone missing? Please have your child(ren) take a look at the Lost & Found carts for any missing items (sweatshirts, jackets, hats, water bottles, lunch boxes, etc). Caregivers are also welcome to stop by the school to take a look. The carts are located near the front office by the restrooms and are also brought out behind the school most Fridays at dismissal.
Volunteers make every effort to return items clearly labeled with your studentβs full name to their classrooms. If you havenβt already, please take a moment to label your studentβs items!
Hiteon Elementary has a 30-day Lost and Found Policy. The L&F carts are cleaned out monthly and any unclaimed items that have been there 30+ days are donated to the Beaverton School District Clothes For Kids organization.

Volunteer Check-In Requirements
It has come to our attention that thereβs a need for clarification regarding school volunteers and whether they are required to sign in through the Raptor kiosk. In short, the answer is YES.
While volunteers may use the Raptor Safe app to sign up for events in advance, this action does not constitute official check-in upon arrival. Signing up through the app simply indicates intent to participate, it does not sign them into the event. This distinction is critical for two key reasons:
Mandatory Sex Offender Screening: The real-time background check is only triggered when a volunteer checks in at the on-site Raptor tablet kiosk. Without this step, the required screening doesnβt occur.
Emergency Accountability: If a volunteer is not signed in through the kiosk, the school has no record of their presence on campus. This poses a serious risk in the event of an emergency where accurate headcount and location tracking are essential.
Every volunteer must physically check in at the kiosk each time that they arrive on campus. This is the only way to ensure compliance with safety protocols and to maintain a secure environment for our students and staff.
If you haven't done your background check to volunteer at Hiteon, you can start on the Volunteer webpage on the district website. The entire process β including the review of the Child Abuse Prevention & Reporting and Adult Sexual Misconduct training materials β should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
Thank you for prioritizing our studentsβ safety and for your willingness to volunteer in BSD.
