Meet the Counselor!
Hello my name is Dawn Woodall! I am honored to be the counselor at Webb Elementary. After I earned a B.A. in Music Education, my journey in Education began in 1999. I began as Elementary Music Teacher. I continued on the journey for 21 years. Over those years, I taught kindergarten through eighth grades in five different districts. During that time, I earned an M.Ed. in Administration. In 2019, I began another M.Ed. in School Counseling. In 2021, I became a school counselor at Harmony Public Schools in Carrollton.
Working with children has always been one of my greatest joys. I believe meaningful relationships are the foundation of student success, and I strive to create a safe, positive environment where every student feels seen, valued, and supported. It is deeply important, to me, that all students, staff, and families know they are heard and appreciated. I love bringing joy and encouragement to those around me while helping students recognize their worth and reach their fullest potential.

Character Trait for the month of October-Responsibility
Tips for helping your child learn responsibility
1. Give Age-Appropriate Responsibilities
Assign simple daily tasks such as making the bed, feeding a pet, putting away toys, or setting the dinner table. Small responsibilities help children feel capable and important.
2. Encourage Independence
Allow children to pack their backpacks, organize school supplies, and prepare for the next school day. Resist the urge to do everything for them.
3. Establish Routines and Expectations
Create consistent routines for homework, chores, and bedtime. Visual checklists can help children remember their responsibilities without constant reminders.
4. Let Mistakes Become Learning Opportunities
When children forget something or make a mistake, help them think about how to solve the problem rather than immediately fixing it for them. Ask, "What could you do differently next time?"
5. Praise Effort and Follow-Through
Recognize when children complete tasks without reminders, admit mistakes, or keep promises. Try saying, "I noticed you finished your homework before playing. That shows responsibility!"
6. Model Responsible Behavior
Children learn by watching adults. Show responsibility by keeping promises, being on time, admitting mistakes, and following through on commitments.
Family Activity
The Family Dinner Takeover!
Goal: Develop teamwork, decision-making, planning, and responsibility.
How to Play: Let your child take the lead in planning one family dinner! With adult guidance, children can help choose the meal, make a grocery list, gather ingredients, prepare age-appropriate parts of the meal, set the table, and clean up afterward.
Family Discussion: Talk about why every family member's contribution matters and how planning and completing tasks makes the family successful.
Ask Your Child: "What responsibilities did you have tonight, and how did you feel when you completed them?"
