A Note From Ms. McCray
Starting the Second Quarter Strong
Last week, Dr. Compton mentioned that we would have a guest writer, so this week I am stepping in. This week, I want to focus on starting the second quarter strong. We have completed our first week of the 2nd quarter, and it was wonderful to have everyone back in the building. Seeing students, staff, and families return with energy and enthusiasm reminds me why our Riverwalk community is so special. The start of a new quarter is a great opportunity to set goals, try new things, and continue building the habits that help students succeed academically and personally.
Here are a few tips to help make this quarter a success:
Set small, achievable goals: Encourage your child to focus on one or two things they want to improve or try this quarter. Small steps add up to big growth.
Stay organized: Using a calendar, planner, or checklist helps students keep track of assignments, projects, and activities. Organization reduces stress and makes it easier to stay on top of schoolwork.
Ask questions and stay curious: Encourage your child to share what they learned, noticed, or wondered about each day. Asking questions builds thinking skills, curiosity, and a love of learning.
Celebrate effort, not just results: Praise persistence, creativity, problem-solving, and effort. Recognizing hard work builds confidence and motivation.
Stay connected: Check in with teachers, review progress, and be part of your child’s learning journey. Your involvement makes a real difference.
By practicing these habits, students can start the quarter strong, stay engaged, and continue to show Riverwalk Pride in everything they do. I am excited to see the great things our students will accomplish this quarter, and I know it will be a positive, rewarding experience for everyone.
I hope you have a wonderful week!
In Pride and Purpose,
Mrs. McCray
