Safety Patrol Applications Are Here! 🚸
Amazing opportunity for 4th and 5th Graders!
Safety Patrol applications have officially gone out! If your child is interested in helping support our school crosswalks and assisting students in safely crossing the street, they should be bringing an application home.
Applications are due October 28th.
Thank you for supporting our students and helping keep our school community safe!

Monitor your Students Screentime with Securly
As many of you know, we have a team of parents at our school, and across the district that are collaborating with school and district staff to provide stronger guidance and consistency around use of screens in classrooms.
Here are the recommendations for families that are concerned about technology use at school:
If you see potential ‘misuse’ of screens, any use of screens in the classroom that does not directly / obviously support the curriculum, please ask the teacher about it. Emily Glasgow, head of curriculum, suggested phrasing it like this: "I noticed [X thing happening in the classroom.] Can you explain to me how this supports the PPS curriculum?"
Ask the teacher directly first. If you continue to have questions after the conversation with the teacher, please reach out to Ms. Amber. If you're still not getting satisfying answers, she can point you to district staff who are working on the issue of screen time.
If you see anything via Securely that worries you (for example your child is accessing sites that they shouldn’t, they’re gaming, or even just on the screen for way too many hours), please email IT directly. Please include the classroom teacher, so they are aware of the issue as well. You can reach IT
Securely is an app that allows teachers and families to monitor screen time use at school. If you do not already have Securely installed, here are directions for how to use this app.
TAG Evaluation & Identification
If you would like to start the TAG evaluation and identification process for your student, you are welcome to complete the referral form.

🩺 Health Office Updates
New Student Health Assistant!
Hi, I'm Mel, the new school health assistant at Chief Joseph! I'm excited to work in the health room M-F supporting your kids with health needs. Feel free to get in touch about any student health concerns, medications your child needs to take at school, or immunization questions. I work with the RN Susan Rhedmond alongside others at MESD (Multnomah Education School District) to support your kids M-F. Whether it's a band-aid, fever, or head collision, I'm here to help.
Looking forward to the year ahead!
Mel (they/them)
😀 Pro Tip: Are you missing something... its probably in lost and found! 📝
The end of year lost and found is no joke! Labeling with your student's name will increase the likelihood that a lost item will be returned to you. If you are missing something, direct your student to look in the lost and found or families can swing by to look for a lost item.

Our very first profit share of the year is with one of our long standing favorite businesses!

A portion of all the sales will be donated to the CJES PTO! Its also a lot of fun to see the CJES families take over the patio to enjoy a meal and beverage!

PTO Profit Share - Blazers!
October 29: Blazers Game, 7:00 vs Memphis Grizzlies
The PTO worked really hard to pick a good night for a Blazers profit share! The game is at 7:00pm, but the good news is there is no school the next day.
Both ticketing options are in the same section of the stadium, so all tickets purchased through the CJES site will be together. Early entry for pregame warm up viewing available to all CJES community member ticket holders. Seating in the two price points are back to back.
