Doherty Open House!
Doherty Middle School Welcomes Rising 6th Graders and Current Families at Engaging Open House
Doherty Middle School recently hosted a fantastic open house, providing a warm welcome to all rising 6th-grade students and their families, as well as current students and families. The event was a resounding success, offering both current and prospective members of the school community a wonderful opportunity to experience an exhibition of student work.
Attendees were able to explore the vibrant learning environment at Doherty Middle School and witness firsthand the impressive talents and achievements of its students. The evening was described as a truly wonderful experience, made possible by the collective efforts of everyone involved. The school community expressed immense excitement and is eagerly looking forward to the upcoming academic year.
Rising 6th Grade student visit Doherty!
On Wednesday, May 28th, Doherty Middle School welcomed rising 6th-grade students for a special Step-Up Day. The visiting students were greeted by Doherty's WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) Leaders. These 8th-grade WEB Leaders played a key role in the day, answering student questions and guiding tours of the school. Special thank you goes out to all our WEB Leaders, Ms. Shannon Murphy- WEB teacher, & Ms. Molly Creamer- Guidance Counselor
Visit to South School
Special Thank you to our DMS 6th Grade students: Lexi Ali, Farida Hamada, Max Murphy and Teddy Zrike
Four current 6th-grade students from Doherty Middle School went back to their former elementary school, South School. The 6th graders shared their personal insights and experiences about the transition to middle school. They covered a wide range of topics, from navigating the new building layouts and using lockers to adapting to different teaching styles, managing more homework, and making new friends. This visit provides the 5th graders with an invaluable opportunity to ask candid questions about their upcoming move, receiving practical advice and reassurance directly from those who have recently experienced it, helping to alleviate anxieties and build excitement for the next chapter in their academic lives.
Frog Dissection
6th grades students are dissecting frogs!
When students dissect a frog, they get to see firsthand how all the parts of a living creature fit together. It's like taking apart a machine to understand how it works, but with a real animal.
They can actually touch and see organs. This helps them understand how these organs work together in different body systems, such as how blood moves through the body (circulatory system) or how food is digested (digestive system).
Looking at a diagram or a model is helpful, but it's not the same as seeing the real thing. Dissecting a frog allows students to collect their own evidence about how an animal is put together. They can figure out how different parts are connected and how their shapes give clues about what they do. This hands-on experience helps them build a much deeper understanding of how living things function, far beyond what they could learn from just looking at pictures.
Fully charged computers to school every day
Please remind your student(s)
As we head into the final weeks of the school year, we want to share a friendly reminder about student devices.
Students are expected to bring their fully charged computers to school every day. While we know the end of the year can be a busy time, consistent access to their devices is still essential for their learning in the classroom.
You can really help us with this by reminding your student to charge their computer every night. This simple routine makes a big difference in ensuring they are prepared for class each day.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your student's education.

Who We Are & Stay Connected
“Who We Are”
Communication with our families is essential to the success and wellness of our students. To assist our families and help them connect with the appropriate staff who is best suited to answer questions, we have updated our “Who We Are” page on our website. The information will guide families to resources on how to reach staff with concerns and how to stay connected to news and events across the district.
